天明三年（1783年）の夏、浅間山が噴火し、東方の諸国に火山灰が降り注いだ。ここに、兵（某）の近くに住む大塚翁という方が、以前に信州路を旅した折、その山（浅間山）の様子が他の諸山とは異なっていたので、その姿を旅の途中から書き留めていた。それを（ここに）写し置くものである。

In the summer of the third year of Tenmei (1783), Mount Asama erupted, and volcanic ash rained down upon the provinces to the east. A certain elder by the name of Ōtsuka, who lived in the vicinity of Hyō (a certain place), had previously traveled along the Shinshū road, and finding the appearance of the mountain unlike any other, had been recording its form from the course of his journey onward. This is a copy of those records.
