信濃国大地震之記
大地震之儀ニ付御届書
私御代官所当分御預所信濃国高井水内郡村々之儀当月廿四日
夜戌ノ中刻ゟ亥ノ上刻江掛ケ大地震有之夫ゟ不絶震動し村々地震
起り翌廿五日卯ノ中刻漸々相鎮候処地割れ裂冷水泥水吹出し
潰家人牛馬死失多し家内不残死絶候者共有之怪我人等夥敷
一村皆潰家ニ相成候者共有之前代未聞之変事之趣追々届出候ニ
付手代共差遣申候且陣屋許中野村之儀は潰家等有之候迄にて
陣屋は別条無之候委細之儀は追々可申上候得共先此段御届申上候以上
但此度之地震は信濃国中一盤之様子ニ而支配所内ニは未出火之
趣届出不申候得共地震最中所々出火多く相見江本多豊後守

大地震につき御届書
私（が管轄する）御代官所・当分御預所である信濃国高井郡・水内郡の村々において、当月二十四日の夜、戌の中刻（午後九時頃）から亥の上刻（午後九時半頃）にかけて大地震が発生し、それ以降も絶え間なく震動が続き、各村で地震が起こり、翌二十五日の卯の中刻（午前六時頃）にようやく次第に鎮まりました。その後、地割れが生じ、冷水・泥水が噴き出し、倒壊した家屋や、死亡した人・牛・馬が多数にのぼりました。家族全員が死亡した者もあり、怪我人も夥しく、一村全体が家屋の倒壊に至った村もあるとのこと、前代未聞の大変事である旨が次々と届け出がありましたので、手代を派遣いたしました。また、陣屋のある中野村については、倒壊家屋等はあったものの、陣屋自体には別条（異常）はございません。詳細については追って申し上げますが、まずはこの段をご報告申し上げます。以上。
但し、この度の地震は信濃国中一帯の様子であり、支配所内においては未だ出火の届け出はありませんが、地震の最中に各所で出火が多く見受けられ、本多豊後守（の支配所では）——

Record of the Great Earthquake in Shinano Province, 24th Day of the 3rd Month, Kōka 4 (1847)
Official Report Regarding the Great Earthquake
In the villages of Takai and Minochi Districts in Shinano Province, which fall under my jurisdiction as daikan (magistrate) and provisional administrative custody, a great earthquake struck on the night of the 24th of this month, from approximately the middle of the Hour of the Dog (around 9:00 PM) through the early part of the Hour of the Boar (around 9:30 PM). Thereafter, tremors continued without cease throughout the villages, and by the middle of the Hour of the Hare (around 6:00 AM) on the following 25th day, the shaking gradually subsided. Subsequently, the ground cracked and split, cold water and muddy water gushed forth, and there were many collapsed houses and deaths of people, cattle, and horses. There are cases where entire households perished without exception, the number of injured persons is enormous, and there are villages where every house in the village has collapsed — reports of this unprecedented catastrophe have been arriving one after another. Accordingly, I have dispatched my agents (tedai). As for Nakano Village, where the administrative office (jinya) is located, while there are collapsed houses, the jinya itself has suffered no particular damage. I will report the details in due course, but for now I submit this preliminary notice. Respectfully submitted.
Note: This earthquake appears to have affected the entirety of Shinano Province. While no reports of fire outbreaks have yet come in from within my administrative jurisdiction, during the earthquake itself fires were seen breaking out in many locations, and in the territory of Honda Bungo-no-kami——
