were removed, and two people from the Ritual Vestment Office hand-carried the old ritual boxes and placed two stands east and west in front of the imperial table on the central mat pathway. Then they bowed once again and withdrew. I ascended to the shrine grounds, opened the sacred doors, then returned home and changed into light blue hunting robes. As the Konoe messenger was making an official visit, I went to Misono-guchi. This was at my discretion. Around half past the Hour of the Horse, Imperial Messenger Imaki Chūjō Sadaaki and others all arrived, and everything was completed as usual around the hour before noon. 18th day, Mizunoto-I, clear - Because His Majesty's prince, Prince Noritaka, passed away on the 12th, court sessions were suspended from around the 17th until the 19th. Similarly, an order was issued to stop all music. 23rd day, Tsuchinoe-Tatsu, clear with light rain - For official business regarding the lecture meeting in Osaka, official Sakamoto Minbu and I departed this evening by night boat for Osaka, boarding at Fushimi around the Hour of the Dog. 24th day, Tsuchinoto-Mi, clear - We arrived in Osaka at half past the Hour of the Rabbit. Our regular lodging was at Tawarawatari Kisuke's place at Naniwa Bridge. Kurōdo Nakano had arrived earlier on the 20th for the same official business and was waiting, with various arrangements made. In the afternoon, regarding official discussions, I alone went to Kida Shōzaemon's place where drinks were served. I returned to the inn at the latter part of the Hour of the Sheep. 25th day, Kanoe-Uma, clear - Today at the new reception room at Ikedaya Tahē's place in Dōjima, the fourth lecture meeting was held. The organizers came to the inn one after another this morning, and after the Hour of the Horse everyone proceeded to the banquet. It concluded around the Hour of the Boar and we returned to the inn. 26th day, Kanoto-Hitsuji, heavy rain and strong wind - At the inn, the organizers and I settled the accounts for the lecture meeting. The required silver was insufficient, so we borrowed one kan from Nagata Sakubē, as usual. 28th day, Mizunoto-Tori, clear - Today Sakamoto Minbu and I traveled together back to Kyoto by day boat, boarding before the Hour of the Snake and arriving at the imperial residence before the Hour of the Monkey. At the Hour of the Dog we returned to the family residence, paid our respects, and as customary offerings presented one box each of thirty Toraya sweets to both imperial residences, then returned home around the Hour of the Boar. However, Kurōdo Nakano was ordered to remain for another two or three days for the same official business. 29th day, Kinoe-Inu, clear - There was a brief rumble of thunder around half past the Hour of the Sheep. Around the Hour of the Dog, a letter arrived from Sasaki, an official of the family residence, stating that there were concerning matters regarding fire hazards in the garden area and I was ordered to report for duty immediately.
