相模国大地震

時期は嘉永6年癸丑の年、2月2日昼九つ時（正午頃）、相州小田原の城下町をはじめとして、東は田村川辺り、厚木、荻野山中、高座郡神戸、井戸、大磯宿、中村、金子、鈴川、蓑毛、糟谷、伊勢原、子安辺り、大山辺り、大住郡近辺の山々、上村、谷村、岡本、早川、石橋山、二子山、箱根ならびに七湯の湯場すべて、湯本、畑宿、山中、三ツ谷辺り。西は伊豆国熱海辺り、三島宿、海尻峠、岩渡峠、東端峠、駿河国沼津辺りまで、もっとも原宿、吉原宿辺りまでも相当な被害があった。

北は愛甲郡三増川村、このあたりの山々が大いに荒れ、津久井郡青野原、当志川下辺り、鼠坂、橋本辺りは少し荒れたとのこと。小原辺り、関の辺りまでも大体同様の被害で、夜九つ時過ぎまで都合何度という数も分からないほどであったが、大きな揺れに至ったものを5度として、ようやく揺れが止まり、人々は安堵の思いをしたのである。

よって、このことを諸国の親類縁者に知らせるため、一紙に詳しく記す。

Great Earthquake in Sagami Province

This occurred in the 6th year of Kaei, the year of the Ox (1853), on the 2nd day of the 2nd month, around the ninth hour of the day (around noon). The earthquake affected the castle town of Odawara in Sagami Province and extended eastward to include the area around Tamura River, Atsugi, Ogino-sanchu, Koza District's Godo, Ido, Oiso post station, Nakamura, Kaneko, Suzukawa, Minoge, Kasuya, Isehara, Koyasu area, the area around Mount Oyama, the mountains near Osumi District, Kamimura, Yatamura, Okamoto, Hayakawa, Ishibashiyama, Futagoyama, Hakone and all seven hot spring areas, Yumoto, Hatajuku, Yamanaka, and Mitsutani area. To the west, it reached Atami area in Izu Province, Mishima post station, Umasiri Pass, Iwatari Pass, Toba Pass, and as far as the Numazu area in Suruga Province, and even Hara post station and Yoshiwara post station areas suffered considerable damage.

To the north, in Aiko District's Mimasu-gawamura, the mountains in this area were greatly devastated, and in Tsukui District's Aonohara and the lower Toshi River area, Nezumizaka and Hashimoto areas suffered some damage. The Kohara area and Seki area also suffered similar damage. The tremors continued until past the ninth hour of the night, with countless shakings, but there were five major tremors, and finally the shaking stopped, bringing relief to the people.

Therefore, to inform relatives and connections in various provinces of this event, I record it in detail on this paper.
