信州中之条の御代官・川上金五郎より、風聞を尋ねた書付に絵図を添えて（報告があった）。三月二十四日夜四つ時頃、にわかに大地震があり、中之条陣屋の構え・詰塀の大半が揺れ崩れたが、建物には別条なし。陣屋元の村々も同様に、庇などが震え落ちたものの、潰れた家や怪我人などはなかった。陣屋内においても庭中に野陣を張り、本家に住居している者はいなかった。同夜の暁までには八、九十度もの大小の振動があった。翌二十五日から晦日までは、振動が日々百五十度、または百度ほどずつ、その内に大きな揺れが五、六度ずつあった。当月朔日から五日までは、日々三、四十度ずつと間遠になってきたが、その内に大きな揺れが二、三度ずつあり、今もなお振動は止まらない状況である。いまだ村々では野宿している者が多くいる。

一、支配地域は水内郡の内に六ヶ村あり、民家がすべて潰れたも同然で、死人が多い場所があるが、その他は破損箇所の方が多く、見分のための手代を差し遣わしているが、まだ調査が完了しておらず申し訳ない。

一、松代領水内郡の内に「山中」と唱える一郷があり、三万石の場所であるが、右の村々では特に地震が強く、山崩れが村ごとにあり、家居はことごとく潰れ、死人も夥しく、同郡の水内橋の下（へと続く）。

This is a report with an attached illustrated map, inquiring about rumors and hearsay, submitted by Kawakami Kingorō, the magistrate (daikan) of Nakanojō in Shinshū province. Around the hour of Yotsu (approximately 10 p.m.) on the night of the 24th day of the 3rd month, a sudden great earthquake struck. The perimeter walls and guard walls of the Nakanojō government office (jin'ya) largely collapsed, but the main buildings suffered no particular damage. The villages surrounding the government office likewise had eaves and similar structures fall, but no houses were completely destroyed and no one was injured. Even within the compound, people pitched field camps in the gardens and no one remained living in the main buildings. From that same night until dawn, there were eighty to ninety tremors of varying intensity. From the following 25th day through to the last day of the month, tremors continued at a rate of approximately 150 or 100 per day, among which there were five or six major shocks per day. From the 1st to the 5th of the current month, the tremors became more infrequent at thirty to forty per day, though among these there were still two or three major shocks per day; the tremors have not yet ceased even now. There are still many people in the villages who are sleeping outdoors.

Item: Within the area under this magistrate's jurisdiction, there are six villages in Mizuchi District where many houses are as good as completely destroyed and there are many dead; the remaining areas have mostly sustained damage rather than total destruction. Inspectors (tedai) have been dispatched, but investigations have not yet been completed.

Item: Within Matsushiro domain's Mizuchi District, there is a district called "Yamanaka," a place assessed at 30,000 koku. In these villages, the earthquakes were particularly severe, with landslides occurring in every village, all houses completely destroyed, and an extraordinary number of deaths.
