【雪之説（本文）】
ある人が問うて言った。「雨・露・霜・雪の中でも、とりわけ雪のことについては、なんとなく合点がいかず、深い道理があるように思われます。また、雪女というものが存在するとのことで、日本の草紙などに記されております。あるいは犬は雪を喜ぶとも言い、あるいは雪は豊年の兆しなどとも言われております。これはいかなることでしょうか。詳しくその説明をお聞かせください。」
これに答えて言った。「雨・露・霜・雪とそれぞれ異なるように見えますが、もとはみな一つのものです。」

**[On Snow (Main Text)]**
Someone asked: "Among rain, dew, frost, and snow, it is snow in particular that I cannot quite comprehend — it seems to hold some profound principle. Moreover, I have heard that there exists something called the 'Snow Woman' (Yuki-onna), which is recorded in various Japanese storybooks. Some say that dogs delight in snow, and others say that snow is an omen of a bountiful harvest. What is the meaning of all this? Please explain these matters to me in detail."
In response, it was said: "Although rain, dew, frost, and snow each appear different, at their root they are all one and the same thing."
