葉は小さく、葉の根元にひずみがある。茎、葉ともに硬い。また白い
花もある。三種とも草に大小があり、大いかり、小いかりと言う。

と言うが、今まで見たことがない。花は冬から咲くものもあるが、多くは三月に咲く。
蒲公草（ほこうそう）は元来どこから出たものか明らかでない。今は至る所の平地や沢、田園の中に
みなこれがある。春の初めに苗が生じる。葉は苦苣（くきょ）のようで細かいとげがある。中心から一本の
茎が伸び、茎の先端から花を出す。色は黄色で金銭のようである。その茎を切ると白い汁が出る。

人もまたこれを食べる。俗にこれを蒲英（ほえい）と呼ぶ。一名は構耨草（こうじょくそう）。甘くして毒がない。
婦人の乳癰腫（にゅうようしゅ）を主治する。水で煮て汁を飲み、また湿布すればたちまち消える。

極めて上品である。また日光あざみというものもある。中紫で
大輪、葉は普通のあざみと同じ。よく培養すれば極めて
大きくなる。また天竺あざみというものもある。
朝鮮あざみとも言う。花、葉ともに大きい。
花の色は瑠璃紫。葉は普通のあざみより切れ込みが深く、
平江帯（へこたい）の葉を見るようである。草丈が格別に大きく、目を
驚かせる。また今年、黄色のあざみを初めて見た。花の
色が変わったというだけで、好むほどではない。葉に
斑の入ったものもある。野あざみを泥胡菜（きつねあざみ）とも言う。

【Outside box】The flower shape is like an anchor, with colors of deep purple and light purple. The leaves are small with distortions at the base. Both stems and leaves are hard. There are also white flowers. All three types have large and small varieties, called large barrenwort and small barrenwort.
【Heading, boxed section】Dandelion 【Outside box】The flower shape resembles chrysanthemum. The stem has no branches, and like spatterdock, the leaves have large serrations like shepherd's purse. It produces leaves from winter, green in color, and when receiving frost, the leaf tips turn purple and scorched. Flower colors are yellow, and there are also white ones. There are said to be red ones too, but I have never seen them. Some flowers bloom from winter, but most bloom in March.
Taraxacum originally had no clear place of origin. Now it exists everywhere in plains, marshes, and fields. In early spring, seedlings emerge. The leaves are like endive with fine thorns. From the center, one stem extends, producing flowers from the stem tip. The color is yellow like gold coins. When the stem is cut, white sap emerges.

【Outside box】There are many varieties of flowers: white, terminal red, base red, or terminal purple, snow white, also deep blue, purple, and light pink. Snow white with base red tips have distinctions, and purple with white tips have distinctions. Both types are extremely refined. There is also one called Nikkō thistle: medium purple, large flowers, with leaves the same as ordinary thistle. When well cultivated, it becomes extremely large. There is also one called Tenjiku (Indian) thistle, also called Korean thistle. Both flowers and leaves are large. The flower color is lapis lazuli purple. The leaves have deeper serrations than ordinary thistle, resembling the leaves of Echinops. The plant height is exceptionally tall, startling to the eye. This year I saw a yellow thistle for the first time. It's just that the flower color is different, not particularly appealing. There are also ones with variegated leaves. Wild thistle is also called "fox thistle."
