下野国那須野に近い黒羽の領主である増業朝臣は、民を慈しんで治め、農業を奨励するお仕事を嫌がることなく思われるあまり、その力をもって園生の桑の若い芽から、親の蚕の繭籠もりで糸を繰り出す機織女の営みにまで心を寄せて、石上の古い世の物事をはじめ、身近な人の慰みごとまで、これを探りあれを考え合わせて、梓弓の五巻の書物となさった。

Lord Masunari of Kuroha, near Nasuno in Shimotsuke Province, governs his people with compassion and does not disdain the work of encouraging agriculture. With his dedication, he has turned his attention even to the craft of weaving women who draw silk thread from silkworm cocoons, from the young buds of mulberry trees in the gardens to the cocoon chambers of parent silkworms. He has investigated ancient matters from times of old as well as the pastimes of people close to him, examining this and contemplating that, creating this five-volume work like the catalpa bow.
