現代語訳
ここに鎌田又八といって、近国に隠れない大力者がいた。幼い頃、白い鶏を飼っていた。
隣家の犬がその鶏を食い殺してしまった。
又八の乳母は「けしからん」と言って、鳥の鳴き声に驚いて駆け出し、犬を追ったが、ついに鶏を食い殺してしまった。
「憎い畜生め。又八様が帰ってきたら、大変なことになるだろう。」
童子が石を投げつけて追ったが、この犬には［判読不明］を食わせ、しかと［判読不明］そは［判読不明］去ってしまった。
英語訳
Here was a man called Kamada Matahachi, a strongman renowned throughout the neighboring provinces. In his childhood, he kept a white chicken.
A dog from the neighboring house killed and ate that chicken.
Matahachi's wet nurse, saying "How outrageous!", was startled by the bird's cry and rushed out to chase the dog, but the chicken was ultimately killed and eaten.
"Cursed beast! When young master Matahachi returns, there will be terrible consequences."
A child threw stones at it to chase it away, but this dog [text unclear] and then departed.
