現代語訳
その頃、絹屋嘉右衛門という裕福な商人がいた。この母親は非常に猫を大切にしており、孫子といえどもその愛情には及ばないほど、たいそう可愛がって飼っていた。
「にゃあにゃあにゃあ」
赤猫は年を取ると化けるというが、ああ、この猫がついに嘉右衛門の母を食い殺してしまった。
「苦しい、助けて」

At that time, there was a wealthy merchant named Kinuya Kaemon. His mother extremely treasured a cat, loving and caring for it so much that even her own grandchildren could not match the affection she showed it.

It is said that red cats transform into demons when they grow old, and indeed, this cat finally devoured and killed Kaemon's mother.
