其種の物に近きは各条に随て載る者なり各条の図も園中に栽て悉く

椿を「つばき」とするのは誤りであることは、椿の条に記すので、ここでは省略する。日本には昔から種類があって、今は二百余種に及んでいる。その品種をすべて示すことはできないので、その一、二を出すのみである。集解にもその種類の名があるというものの、三、四の名前だけなので、その品種の物に近いものは各条に従って載せるものである。各条の図も園中に植えてすべて実際に見ることができなかったので、筑前侯の山茶譜並びにある人の図を得て補った。

Camellia (tsubaki) Mandala "Gunfōfu (Collected Fragrant Genealogies)"
The fact that "tsubaki" (椿) is written as "camellia" is an error, as I record in the section on tsubaki, so I will omit it here. Japan has had varieties since ancient times, and now there are over two hundred varieties. Since I cannot show all the varieties, I present only one or two. Although there are names of varieties in the collected commentaries, there are only three or four names, so those plants close to those varieties are recorded according to each section. Since I could not actually observe all the illustrations in each section planted in gardens, I supplemented them by obtaining the Camellia Manual of the Chikuzen lord and illustrations from certain individuals.
