に小万夫婦の石碑あり小万が夫は平八方の本
家なれど其家断絶せしかば別家の山田平八方
にて石碑を立て祭れるなるべしと而して前記
俗謡の来歴を案ずるに小万は勢州関の駅の妓
女なりしが丹波亀山の家臣に与作なるものあ
り故ありて浪士となり零落して勢州亀山に住
せしが如何なる縁にや妓女小万と深く契を結
び小万毎夜忍びて亀山なる与作の許まで通ひ
しとかや斯くて与作は主家へ帰参かなひける
折抦其頃三州吉田駅坂下町に山田市郎右衛門
と云ふ小間物商人仕入の為め京都へ往復する
都度彼の小万の艶麗なるを見染めて通ひ詰め
たれば与作が迎へて妻女となさんとせしを断
りて遂に市郎右衛門の為に身受けせられ吉田
に連れ来られ家内睦まじく家業を励み享年六
十余才にて天和四年甲子六月三日死去せりと
ぞ

号し浄土宗に属す、人皇五十九代後光厳 帝
御子、貞治五年善忠上生上人寂翁和尚将軍足
利義詮に乞ふて創建せし所なりと云ふ、明治
十一年十月 今上陛下御巡幸の砌当寺を以て
行在所と定めさらせれたり

豊橋吉屋町龍拈寺境内に在り案ずるに観世左
日太夫は元祖伊賀国服部氏の別れにて南部春
大明神の神楽役者衆となりいつの比よりか近
京都に移り住みて和楽謡曲の師となり門弟多
くありける中に妓女の容姿婀娜たるに馴染て
妻となせしが此女至つて嫉妬の念深かりけれ
ば左近太夫も持てあまし妓女を振り捨て都の
住居を夜逃して吉田(豊橋)に来り猿屋小路
(中瀬古)に仮住居せり去る程に謡曲の門人も
数多出来て何不足なく暮せしが一朝日闌なる
まで其門も蔀も開かざれば近隣の人々怪みて
誰彼立会戸を推明けて見るに左近太夫面部よ
り手足に至るまで甚だしく疵つきて死し居た
りければ人々其不思議なるを怪み門弟共は涙
と共に埋葬しけるとなん思ふに此頃は大阪と
関東との不和合中にて謡曲師殿中に往来して
内通をなせりと謂へば観世太夫の横死も亦之
れが為めならん然るに巷説に曰く左近太夫死
去数日を経たる後図らずも妻たりし妓女尋ね
来りて謂ふよう一夜嫉妬の余り太夫を惨酷な
る目にあはし非命の最後を遂げしめたると夢
み都に留まり兼て遥る〳〵尋ね来りたりと告

に小万夫婦の石碑がある。小万の夫は平八方の本家であったが、その家が断絶したため、別家の山田平八方で石碑を立てて祀っているのであろう。そして前記の俗謡の来歴を考えてみると、小万は伊勢国関の駅の遊女であったが、丹波亀山の家臣に与作という者があり、事情があって浪人となり零落して伊勢国亀山に住んでいた。どのような縁であろうか、遊女小万と深く契りを結び、小万は毎夜忍んで亀山にある与作のもとまで通ったという。こうして与作は主家へ帰参することが叶った折、ちょうどその頃三河国吉田駅坂下町に山田市郎右衛門という小間物商人がいて、仕入れのため京都へ往復する度に、かの小万の美しさに見惚れて通い詰めていた。与作が迎えて妻女にしようとしたのを断って、ついに市郎右衛門のために身請けされ、吉田に連れて来られ、家庭円満に家業に励み、享年六
十余歳で天和四年甲子六月三日に死去したという。

there is a stone monument to the Koman couple. Koman's husband was from the main house of the Heihachi family, but since that house line ended, the branch family of Yamada Heihachi probably erected the stone monument and enshrines them. Considering the origin of the aforementioned folk songs, Koman was a courtesan at the Seki post station in Ise Province. There was a retainer named Yosaku in Tamba Kameyama who, due to certain circumstances, became a masterless samurai and fell into poverty, living in Ise Kameyama. Through some connection, he formed a deep bond with the courtesan Koman, and Koman would secretly visit Yosaku in Kameyama every night. Thus when Yosaku was able to return to serve his former lord, at that time there was a small goods merchant named Yamada Ichirō-emon in Sakagemachi of Yoshida station in Mikawa Province. Whenever he traveled to Kyoto for business, he would become infatuated with Koman's beauty and visit her regularly. When Yosaku wanted to take her as his wife, she refused, and was eventually redeemed by Ichirō-emon, brought to Yoshida, where she lived harmoniously with the family and worked diligently in the business, living to the age of sixty-
some years and dying on the third day of the sixth month of Tenna 4 (1684).
○Goshōji Temple: Located in Sekiya-machi, Toyohashi. It is called Kohozan Jōgyō-in and belongs to the Jōdo sect. It is said to have been founded in Jōji 5 (1366) when Zen'chū Jōshō Shōnin Jakuō Oshō, a prince of the 59th Emperor Kōgon, petitioned Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiakira for its establishment. In October of Meiji 11 (1878), when His Current Majesty made an imperial tour, this temple was designated as the temporary imperial residence.

○Ryūneniji Temple: Located in Yoshiya-machi, Toyohashi. It belongs to the Sōtō Zen sect and is one of the foremost great temples in the district. The former lords of Yoshida domain held it in deep reverence. Also, the tomb of Kanze Sakon-dayū that was at Saikōji Temple in Tema-machi was moved to this temple grounds at some point.

○Branch Temple: Located in Hanazono-machi, Toyohashi. Called Seizanzan Seinenji, it is a branch temple of the Shinshū Ōtani sect. This temple was originally of the Shingon sect called Seizanji, but in Tenbun kinoe-uma year (1534) it became a subsidiary of the 10th head priest of Honganji, former Dai-Sōjō Shōnyo Shōnin.
○Tomb of Kanze Sakon-dayū (Assassination)
Located in the grounds of Ryūneniji Temple in Yoshiya-machi, Toyohashi. Considering this, Kanze Sakon-dayū was a branch of the original Iga Province Hattori clan, became one of the kagura performers for Nanbu Haru Daimyōjin, and at some point moved to live near Kyoto, becoming a teacher of court music and Noh chanting with many disciples. Among them, he became intimate with a courtesan of beautiful appearance and made her his wife, but this woman was extremely jealous, so Sakon-dayū found her troublesome and abandoned the courtesan, fleeing his residence in the capital by night to come to Yoshida (Toyohashi), where he took temporary residence in Saruya-kōji (Nakazeko). In time he acquired many students of Noh chanting and lived without want, but one morning when neither his gate nor shutters opened even after the sun rose high, the neighbors found this strange and gathered to push open the door, only to find Sakon-dayū severely wounded from his face to his hands and feet, lying dead. People wondered at this mystery, and his disciples buried him with tears. I think that at this time there was discord between Osaka and Kantō, and it was said that Noh teachers would go in and out of the palace and act as go-betweens, so Kanze-dayū's unnatural death was probably also for this reason. However, according to popular accounts, several days after Sakon-dayū's death, unexpectedly the courtesan who had been his wife came searching and said that one night in a jealous rage she had subjected the dayū to cruel treatment, causing his unnatural death, and having dreamed this, she could not remain in the capital and had come searching from far away, she confessed
