虎列刺病豫防心得草（これらべうようじんこゝろえぐさ）
凡（およ）そ此世（このよ）の中（なか）に。何（なに）が第（だい）一。大切（たいせつ）の寳（たから）ぞといへば。
吾（わ）が命（いのち）より外（ほか）にはあるまじ。何故（なぜ）なれば。貴（たつと）こと
なく。賤（いやし）きことなく。〇金（かね）のほしいも〇家庫（いへくら）の建（た）て
たいも〇よき女房（にようぼう）の持（も）ちたいも〇美（うつく）しい衣服（きもの）
の着（き）たいも〇酒（さけ）の飲（の）みたいも〇旨（むま）いものゝ食（くひ）
たいも〇物見遊山（ものみゆさん）に行（ゆ）きたいも〇嬉（うれ）しいこと
や〇樂（たの）しいこと〇其（その）ほか。世間（せけん）にあるとあらゆ
る望（のぞ）みごと〇命（いのち）ありての物語（ものがた）り〇體（からだ）ありての

コレラ病予防心得草（これらびょうよぼうこころえぐさ）
およそこの世の中に、何が第一大切な宝かといえば、
わが命より他にはないだろう。なぜかといえば、身分の高いも
低いもなく、○お金が欲しいのも○家や蔵を建て
たいのも○良い女房を持ちたいのも○美しい着物を
着たいのも○酒を飲みたいのも○おいしいものを食べ
たいのも○物見遊山に行きたいのも○嬉しいこと
や○楽しいこと○その他、世間にあるあらゆる
望みごと○命あってこその話○体あってこその

Generally speaking, if one were to ask what is the most precious treasure in this world,
it would be nothing other than our own life. Why is this so? Whether one is of high
or low status, ○wanting money ○wanting to build houses and storehouses
○wanting to have a good wife ○wanting to wear beautiful clothes
○wanting to drink sake ○wanting to eat delicious food
○wanting to go sightseeing and on excursions ○happy things
and ○enjoyable things ○and all other desires that exist in this world
○all these are matters only if one has life ○only if one has a body
