新篇塵劫記（上巻）
「見」の一をもって除しては乗し、また乗したるは法をもってこれを除す。その因・除・減・乗する所を、朱と墨と白字をもって色分けし、世に広める。
あるところに、算法の道を知らずして、ただ利益のために我が書を求め、板に開き、朱にて書く字をも墨となしている者がいる。これは大いなる誤りである。
ゆえに二たびこの書を板に開き、朱をもって色分けし、我が書のしるしと定めるべきである。

Using the value of "ken" (見) as one, divide and then multiply; and what has been multiplied, divide again by the *hō* (法, divisor). The operations of multiplication, division, subtraction, and addition [*in, chi, ken, shō*] are distinguished by coloring with vermilion (red), black ink, and white characters, and [this work] is hereby spread throughout the world.
There are those who, without understanding the way of arithmetic, seek out my book merely for profit, have it cut onto woodblocks, and render even the characters written in vermilion into black ink. This is a grave error.
Therefore, I have had this book cut onto woodblocks a second time, with vermilion used for the color distinctions, so as to establish this as the mark of my authentic work.
