【上巻五十四丁裏】
▲六枚屏風で、高さ六尺・幅（一扇）二尺一寸ある。このへり（縁）の内側に三寸の金箔をすべて張る場合、箔はいくら要るかと問う場合、
三寸箔 七百五十二枚八分八厘入りという。
まず二尺一寸に六（枚）をかけると一丈二尺六寸ある。このうち、両端の立て縁に五寸を引くと残り一丈二尺一寸ある。（これに）高さ五尺六寸をかけると六千七百七十六坪ある。これを三寸箔の九坪で割ると、七百五十二枚八分八厘と知れる。

▲ A six-panel folding screen (*byōbu*) is 6 shaku tall and each panel is 2 shaku 1 sun wide. When covering the entire interior of the border (*heri*) of this screen with 3-sun gold leaf, how many sheets are required?
**3-sun leaf: 752 sheets, 8 fun, 8 rin required.**
First, multiply 2 shaku 1 sun by 6 (panels) to get 1 jō 2 shaku 6 sun. From this, subtract 5 sun for the vertical border strips at both ends, leaving 1 jō 2 shaku 1 sun. Multiply this by the height of 5 shaku 6 sun, yielding 6,776 square *sun* (坪). Dividing this by 9 square *sun* (the area of one 3-sun leaf), the result is 752 sheets, 8 fun, 8 rin.
