一方の堤防破壊しても山続（やまつヽ）きにて押へ或は松林にて防ぎ留（ふせ）め田
畑に害（がい）を及ぼすも容易に人家を浸（ひた）すに至らず稀に之ありとする
も其｜割合（わりあひ）に大ならざるを以て自から救護上に便なる所もあり然
れども同じく是れ府下の町村民なれば府民（ふみん）の之に対する決して
軽重｜厚薄（かうばく）の観あるべからず若夫れ浸水（しんすゐ）の光景如何を問ふものあ

沿岸各村の被害 多摩川の洪水氾濫については、北多摩郡のみならず、沿岸の各村にも被害者が少なくないであろうとはいえ、土地の高低が一様でないため、南葛飾郡のように一方から他の一方まで一気に押し寄せ、各村とも少なくない人家全般に害を及ぼすようなことはなく、一方の堤防が破壊されても山続きで押さえられ、あるいは松林で食い止められ、田畑に害を及ぼしても容易に人家を浸水させるには至らず、まれにそのようなことがあっても、その割合は大きくないため、自然と救護上に都合のよい点もある。しかしながら、同じく府下の町村民である以上、府民がこれに対して決して軽重・厚薄の差をつけて見るべきではない。もし浸水の光景がどのようなものかと問う者があれば、渓流が狂ったように奔走する様子は、向島の穏やかな出水にも勝るものがある。試みに鮎釣りの遊びに代えて、わざわざ杖をついて氾濫した跡を見に行くのもまた良いことである。

At the ferry landing in the hamlet of Unane in □ village, similarly, the embankment was destroyed, leaving traces where one temporary hut was swept away.
Damage to Villages Along the Riverbanks: Regarding the flooding of the Tama River, while there are certainly no small number of victims not only in Kita-Tama District but also in the villages along the banks, since the elevation of the land is not uniform, it did not sweep uniformly from one side to the other as in Minami-Katsushika District, causing widespread damage to the majority of houses in all villages. Even when an embankment on one side collapsed, the flood was held back by continuous hills or stopped by pine forests; and even when damage was done to fields and farmland, it did not easily reach the point of inundating houses, and on the rare occasions when it did, the extent was not so great. This naturally made rescue operations somewhat more manageable. Nevertheless, since these are all residents of the prefecture's towns and villages, the people of the prefecture must never view them with any sense of discrimination or preferential treatment. If anyone asks what the scene of the flooding looked like, the torrential rush of the mountain streams surpasses even the gentler overflow at Mukōjima. One might, in place of enjoying leisurely ayu (sweetfish) fishing, purposely take up a walking stick and go to view the traces of the flood.
