時は寿永の頃、平家を西海に追い退け、義仲はますます驕りを極め、昼夜飲酒に耽り、忠臣を退け、姦佞の曲者どもを近づけ給うとは、なんと嘆かわしいことであったか。
義仲はある夜の夢に、羊となり、角を借り、尾を突き折り、天に上がると見られた。

It was the time of the Juei era. Having driven the Heike clan to the western seas, Yoshinaka grew ever more arrogant, indulging in drink day and night, dismissing his loyal retainers, and drawing treacherous sycophants close to him — how lamentable this was.
One night, Yoshinaka dreamed that he became a sheep, borrowed its horns, broke off its tail, and ascended to the heavens.
