現代語訳
朝日将軍木曽義仲は、伊達、根井、樋口を呼び寄せて、「夢の吉凶を判断せよ」と言われた。
「羊という文字は、八点に王と書いて欠けば利をなします。すなわち八点は角の欠け、利は尾です。二つの尾を折って除けられれば、後は王という文字です。君は正しく十善万乗の御位にお就きになることは疑いありません」と、奸佞朝曲の弁舌をもって阿諛追従申し上げたところ、義仲は大いに喜び、これより一層悪心が募るのであった。

Asahi Shogun Kiso Yoshinaka summoned Date, Nei, and Higuchi, and commanded them, "Judge the auspicious or inauspicious meaning of this dream."
"The character for 'sheep' (羊) consists of eight strokes plus the character for 'king' (王), and when parts are missing, it brings profit. The eight strokes represent the missing horns, and the profit represents the tail. If the two tails are broken off and removed, what remains is the character for 'king' (王). Your lordship will surely ascend to the imperial throne of ten virtues and ten thousand chariots without doubt." With such flattering and deceitful rhetoric, they fawned upon him. Yoshinaka was greatly pleased, and from this point forward, his evil ambitions grew ever stronger.
