現代語訳
朝日将軍・木曽義仲は、伊達、根井、樋口を召して、「夢の吉凶を判断せよ」と仰せになった。
「羊という文字は、八（点）に王と書けば、掛けばり（飾り）が余る。すなわち、八点（はってん）の掛けばりは尾である。二つの尾を折り取り除けば、跡は『王』という字になる。君は正しく、十善万乗の御位につかれることは疑いなし」と、奸佞邪曲の者どもが弁舌をもってへつらい申し上げたので、義仲は大いに喜び、これよりいよいよ悪心が募っていった。

The Morning Sun General, Kiso Yoshinaka, summoned Datenosuke, Noinodaiyata, and Higuchinojiro and commanded them: "Interpret the omen of my dream — whether it be auspicious or inauspicious."
"The character for 'sheep' (羊), when written with eight strokes topped by the character for 'king' (王), leaves extra strokes. Those extra strokes — the hanging marks — represent the tail. If you remove the two tail strokes, what remains is the character 王, meaning 'king.' There is no doubt whatsoever that you shall rightly ascend to the supreme throne of the Ten Virtues, lord over ten thousand chariots." With such flattering words and crooked eloquence, the treacherous sycophants fawned upon him, and Yoshinaka rejoiced greatly — and from this moment, his wicked ambitions grew ever stronger.
