仙北（セムホク）もと郡の名ならす山北（ヤマキタ）河北（カハキタ）と東西（ニシヒムカシ）に對（ムカ）ひ
て云ひし地か河北は能代檜山な《送り仮名：ン》とをさして云
ひつるにや古佛（フルホトケ）古器（フルウツハ）な《送り仮名：ン》とに彫（エリ）つけまた記残り
て河北の文字そありける考へおもふに三代實
録《割書：三十七｜巻五葉》に山北（ヤマキタ）雄勝平鹿山本三郡とあり今し世
かけては此三郡をもはら山北（セムホク）と字音（モシコエ）にいへり
倭名抄に筑後國 生葉郡（イクハノ　　）にも山北の名見えたりな
ほところ〳〵にも有へし此出羽国なる山北いつ
のころよりか山北（セムホク）と字音（カラサマ）に誦（ヨミ）なしそをまた山（セン）

任以下、去年の厳冬より
以来叛逆を企て、或いは伊
豫守義経と號して出
羽國海辺荘に出で、或いは左
馬頭義仲の嫡男朝日冠
者と稱して同國山北郡に起ち、各々
逆党を結び、兼任を追い相具して嫡
子鶴太郎、次男於畿内
次郎并びに七千餘騎の凶徒が
鎌倉方に向かい首途させ、その途中
河北秋田城下を歴る云々と
見えている。この山北の郡と
記されているのは雄勝、平
鹿、山本三郡を並べて
山北郡といったのであろう。

して言った地である。河北は能代檜山などを指して言

りつけまた記し残って河北の文字があったのである。考えてみるに三代實
録《割書：三十七｜巻五葉》に山北（ヤマキタ）雄勝平鹿山本三郡とあり、今の世
においては、この三郡をもっぱら山北（センボク）と字音（音読み）で言っている。
倭名抄に筑後國生葉郡にも山北の名が見えている。なお
ところどころにもあるであろう。この出羽国なる山北は、いつ
の頃からか山北（センボク）と字音（漢音）で読むようになり、それをまた山（セン）

Inaba no Zenji Hiromitsu as messenger
dispatched to the capital... Iwai, Izawa,
Karazashi, Esashi - these three districts
should be sent from the northern mountains to
agricultural districts, seeds etc. should be
distributed... as recorded. The same work, Volume 10
states: Bunji 6 (1190), Kanoe-inu year, 1st month,
6th day, Kanoto-tori: The retainers of the late Yasuhira
of Mutsu Province, including Ōkawa Jirō Kanetō,
have been plotting rebellion since last winter's
harsh season. Some calling themselves
Iyo no Kami Yoshitsune appeared at
Kaihen Manor in Dewa Province, while others
claiming to be Asahi Kanmuri-sha, eldest son of
Sama no Kami Yoshinaka, rose up in Yamakita District
of the same province. Each formed rebel parties,
pursued Kanetō along with his eldest
son Tsuru Tarō, second son Okinai
Jirō, and seven thousand mounted rebels
heading toward Kamakura forces, their route
passing through Kawakita and below Akita Castle...
This "Yamakita District" mentioned
refers to the three districts of Ogachi, Hiraga,
and Yamamoto collectively called
Yamakita District.

【Main text】
○Moon Dewa Road (Tsuki no Idehaji) 《marginal note: Senboku | District Section (Kudari)》
Senboku was not originally the name of a district. It was a region called Yamakita (Mountain-North) and Kawakita (River-North) in east-west
opposition. Kawakita probably referred to places like Noshiro and Hiyama.
On ancient Buddhist statues and ancient vessels, carved
inscriptions and records remain with the characters for Kawakita. Upon consideration, the Sandai Jitsuroku
《marginal note: Volume 37 | 5th leaf》 records "Yamakita: Ogachi, Hiraga, Yamamoto three districts," and in today's world
these three districts are exclusively called Senboku using the Chinese pronunciation.
The Wamyō-shō also shows the name Yamakita in Ikuha District of Chikugo Province. There are probably
similar cases in various other places. This Yamakita in Dewa Province, from some
period began to be read as Senboku using Chinese pronunciation, and this Sen (mountain)...
