図に描かれているのは源為義の八男、
鎮西八郎為朝の弓の威力である。
攻め寄せているのは伊藤五郎と伊藤六郎の
兄弟である。伊藤五郎景綱が
為朝に矢を射かけた。
為朝は何でもないことのように「釣り合わない敵
だと思うが、お前の言葉が
勇ましいので矢を一つ与えよう、
受けて見よ」と言って、三年竹の節の
近くで、山鳥の尾羽で矧いだ
七寸五分の丸根の
矢を十五束（約27メートル）の距離で少し構えて
勇ましく射ると、真っ先に進んだ

What is depicted here is the archery prowess of Minamoto no Tametomo, the eighth son of Minamoto no Tameyoshi, known as Chinzei Hachirō. The attackers are the brothers Itō Gorō and Itō Rokurō. Itō Gorō Kagetsuna shot an arrow at Tametomo. Tametomo, treating it as nothing, said, "I think you are an unworthy opponent, but since your words are bold, I shall give you one arrow—try to receive it." With a marune (round-headed) arrow seven sun and five bu long, fletched with mountain pheasant tail feathers near a joint of three-year bamboo, he drew his bow briefly at a distance of fifteen soku (approximately 27 meters) and shot powerfully. The arrow pierced through the chest plate of Itō Rokurō, who had advanced to the front, and the remaining force of the arrow turned inside-out the imuke sleeve of Itō Gorō, who was behind him, leaving him standing there.
