明和乙酉秋七月下旬。雷震＿二於相州雨降山＿一￣ニ。雲雨晴
散忽見＿ニ一獣＿一￣ヲ。其貌似＿レ鼬￣ニ而甚大色少黒。長自＿レ頭至＿レ尾￣ニ
一尺五六寸許。相傳此物。天晴明￣ナレバ則温柔而可＿二馴豢＿二。

明和乙酉年（1765年）秋七月下旬、相州雨降山において雷震があった。雲雨が晴れ散ると、たちまち一頭の獣が現れた。その姿はイタチに似ているが、非常に大きく、色はやや黒い。頭から尾までの長さは一尺五、六寸ほどである。言い伝えによれば、この生き物は、天気が晴れて穏やかな時には温和でおとなしく、飼い慣らすことができるという。

In the latter part of the seventh month of autumn in the year Meiwa Kinototori (1765), a thunderbolt struck Mount Amaguri (Amefuri-yama) in Sagami Province. When the clouds and rain cleared and dispersed, a beast suddenly appeared. Its form resembled a weasel, but was considerably larger, with a somewhat dark coloration. Its length from head to tail was approximately one shaku five or six sun (roughly 45–48 cm). It is said that when the weather is fair and calm, this creature is gentle and docile, and can be tamed and kept.
