（前頁より続き）汰にあり候えども、御年重ねになられるにつき、刑部卿様の御嫡子・小五郎様が五歳になられ、御幼年ではあるけれども、思し召しの寄るところがなければ、御養子に進らすべき旨を表立って御沙汰に及ぶべき旨、御内々に御達しがあった。
一、五月（日付不詳）、御用番本多伯耆守《正珍》殿御渡しの御書付として、大目付中より以下の通り御廻状が来た。
母が出奔し行方が知れず、その子が部屋住みでいる場合、たとえ幼少でその訳を作らなかったとしても、家替（婿養子縁組）の相談はできない。また、他家へ養子に遣わすことも難しい。
但し、母が家女（妾）であった場合は、その沙汰には及ばない。
一、六月十一日、御用人の儀について、今後は「御中老」と称し、御奏者番は「御用人御奏者番」と兼ねて称するよう仰せ出された。
一、同月十二日、御登城になったところ（昨十一日に御老中御連名の御切紙が来た）、御黒書院にて御老中列座の御用番酒井雅楽頭《忠峯》殿より、上意の趣として以下の通り御達しがあった。
刑部卿殿の嫡子・小五郎殿を、松平兵部大輔の養子に仰せ付けられた。

[Continued from previous page] ...was a matter decided by Gyōbukyō 《Muneyasu》; however, given that [Gyōbukyō] was advancing in years, and that his eldest son, Kogoro, had reached the age of five — young though he was — if there were no other intentions, it was privately communicated that a formal declaration would be made to the effect that Kogoro should be offered as an adopted son.
1. On a day in the 5th month (date unknown), a circular arrived from the Grand Inspectors, transmitted through a written notice from Duty Magistrate Honda Hōki-no-kami 《Masayoshi》, stating the following:
In the case where a mother has absconded and her whereabouts are unknown, and her child remains a dependent member of the household (部屋住み), even if the child is too young to have been involved in such matters, arrangements for a house transfer (i.e., marriage adoption) cannot be made. Furthermore, sending [such a child] as an adopted son to another household is also not permissible.
Note: However, if the mother was a household servant (concubine), this ruling does not apply.
1. On the 11th day of the 6th month, it was decreed that the title of "御用人" (steward/attendant) shall henceforth be called "御中老" (Middle Elder), and that the "御奏者番" (Chamberlain) shall jointly carry the title of "御用人御奏者番."

On the 12th of the same month, [the lord] went to the castle (a jointly signed written notice from the Senior Councilors having arrived on the 11th), and in the Black Audience Chamber, with the Senior Councilors present, Duty Magistrate Sakai Utano-kami 《Tadamine》 conveyed the following shogunal decree:
The eldest son of Gyōbukyō-dono, Kogoro-dono, is hereby appointed as the adopted son of Matsudaira Hyōbu-no-taifu.

After the above was completed, Hotta Sagami-no-kami 《Masasuke》 conveyed the following through a written notice:
