言わさる様火燵櫓に桶籠 呼（猿）子と招くも
動かざる行かさる方がまし（猿）らと思ひ三筋は

申にはあらぬ戌の春中の悪しきは昔の事
今は一しほむつましき睦月の始を幸ひと
今をも知れざる遠行（猿猴）の去るべき先の
要法と温故帖の思案はかりにお猿は
目出度と引籠ま（猿）して御（娯）座（ 猿）る
たいこかも然りて籠りし老情の

六畳の四方に常設の閣を構えて、見ざる聞かざる言わざるような火燵櫓に桶籠で、猿子と招いても動かない。行かせないほうがましな猿だと思い、三筋どころか禿頭の猿冠者の愚かな知恵をもって、申年ではなく戌年の春中の悪しきことは昔のこと。今は一層睦まじい睦月（正月）の始まりを幸いとして、今をも知らない猿猴が去るべき先の要法と、温故帖の思案ばかりに、お猿は目出度いと引きこもって楽しんでいる。
太公望もそのように籠もった老人の情の
楽しい心を人は知らない猿

In a six-tatami room with permanent alcoves built on all four sides, like a kotatsu tower with bucket and basket where one sees not, hears not, speaks not, even when called as "monkey child," it does not move. Thinking it better that such a monkey not go anywhere, with not just three strands but a completely bald head, using the foolish wisdom of a monkey retainer, the troubles of spring in the year of the Dog (not the Monkey) are things of the past. Now, taking the beginning of the harmonious first month as auspicious, with only thoughts of the essential methods for where the unaware monkey should go and contemplation of this historical collection, the monkey contentedly withdraws and enjoys himself.
Like Taigong Wang who withdrew in such a manner, the old man's sentiment—
Who knows this joyful heart of the monkey
