常並の絹にも劣れり故に銘産たる奉書紬
と言ふ詮なく当節諸方に而各工夫尽力する
折柄故右様体裁に而は此上衰微せずとも
常年不易之繁昌は中々無覚束哉と思へり
右は奉書紬計之事其余之諸品皆是に同じ
乍併是は前書に言ふ如く其道を知らざる頑愚
の老父勘考なれは研究して議論する力
量はなし何分にも倍精製に仕出し不実狡
猾之諸業なき様に尽力聊たりと国益之
疲弊不相成様一層改而勉励すへき事なり
右趣向に付而は近来年々之物産金融を初
総而之模様一ヶ年宛書綴り尚今後咸万歳
之末迄無懈怠書継時体之景況を永世後
人に知らしめ度依而其向々会社へ托し出来
し上は温故社担任之方へ一集し数多書継之種類
悉皆衆人に展覧之趣向なり
現代語訳
通常並みの絹にも劣っているため、銘産である奉書紬と言っても詮ないことで、当節は諸方においてそれぞれ工夫し尽力している折から、このような体裁では、この上衰微しないとしても、平年変わらぬ繁昌は中々見込みがないと思われる。
以上は奉書紬だけのことで、その他の諸品も皆これと同様である。
しかしながら、これは前述のように、その道を知らない頑愚な老父の勘考であるから、研究して議論する力量はない。何分にも倍の精製で仕上げ、不実狡猾な諸業がないように尽力し、わずかでも国益の疲弊を招かないよう、一層改めて勉励すべきことである。
この趣向について、近来年々の物産や金融をはじめ、総ての模様を一ヶ年ずつ書き綴り、なお今後永遠の末まで怠りなく書き継ぎ、時代の景況を永世後人に知らせたく思い、それぞれの向きの会社に託し、出来上がった上は温故社担任の方へ一括し、数多くの書き継ぎの種類をことごとく衆人に展覧する趣向である。
英語訳
The quality has declined to below that of ordinary silk, so it is meaningless to call it the famous hōsho silk. At present, when various regions are each devising improvements and making efforts, with such poor standards, even if there is no further decline, steady prosperity year after year seems quite unlikely.
The above concerns only hōsho silk, but all other products are similarly affected.
However, as mentioned earlier, this is the consideration of an ignorant old man who does not know the trade, so I lack the capability to research and debate these matters. In any case, we must make products with double the refinement, strive to eliminate dishonest and cunning practices, and work even harder to reform and make efforts so that national interests do not suffer even slightly.
Regarding this intention, I plan to record annually the conditions of local products and finance, and indeed all circumstances year by year, and furthermore to continue writing without negligence until the eternal future, so that people of later generations may know the conditions of our times. I will entrust this to the respective companies, and once completed, I will consolidate everything with those in charge of the Onko Society, with the intention of displaying all the many types of continuous records for public viewing.
