之事ニて夫々見込て頼ミしも其甲斐なく次第ニ
おくるゝに従ひ程々不体裁之始末ニて骨董
家之手ニ渡りしを現在見るといへとも賛成之
好人なき故私費を以求むるも不能数年来之
本意を不遂して死ニ至らん事を遺憾至極ニ思へり
最早斯く成る上ハ現品を募集之事等叶ひ難し
希ハ旧来之門閥家を初末々迄彼家ニハ何々之
重宝物品秘蔵有しといふ事を無洩穿
鑿温故社之記録ニ永世書遺しあらん事を
宇都宮家ニハ種々之重宝アリ取調書入度事
九州可被相鎮間事此殊可致其沙汰之旨被
仰便慮候可令改其旨之状所被 仰下候仍
執達如件

現代語訳
そのことについてそれぞれ見込みをつけて頼んだものの、その甲斐なく次第に
遅れるにつれて、程々に体裁の悪い始末で骨董
商の手に渡ったのを現在見ているけれども、賛成してくれる
好事家がいないため、私費で求めることもできず、数年来の
本意を遂げずして死に至ることを極めて遺憾に思っている。
もはやこうなった上は、現品を募集することなどは叶い難い。
願わくは旧来の門閥家をはじめ末々まで、あの家には何々の
重宝・物品を秘蔵していたということを漏れなく穿鑿し、
温故社の記録に永世書き遺そうとするものである。
宇都宮家には種々の重宝がある。取り調べて書き入れたい事
九州を鎮めさせられるべき間の事、この度特にその沙汰を致すべきの旨を
仰せ慮らるる候、改めさせるべきその旨の状を仰せ下される候、よって
執達件の如し

Regarding that matter, although I approached various people with expectations and requests, it was to no avail, and as things gradually
fell behind schedule, the situation became rather unseemly, and I now witness items ending up in the hands of antique
dealers. However, since there are no sympathetic
connoisseurs to support this cause, I cannot acquire them with my private funds, and I deeply regret that
I may die without achieving my long-cherished aspiration of several years.
Now that things have come to this, it has become difficult to collect actual items.
I hope at least to thoroughly investigate, without omission, what treasures and artifacts
were kept in secret by the traditional noble families from the highest to the lowest ranks,
and to record this permanently in the records of the Onko Society.
The Utsunomiya family possesses various treasures. I would like to investigate and record these.
Regarding the period when Kyushu shall be pacified, it is commanded that
you should particularly attend to this matter. A document commanding that this should be reformed has been
issued from above, therefore
this message is delivered as stated.
