立ち別れて一丁ほど行ったところで、右の小者一人を呼び戻し、当座の衣服・大小刀・袴・すべての装束をことごとく下賜された。若年ながら志の優れていることを美賞し、さらに供頭役に召し抱えられてからは、日勤の余力で暑さ寒さ昼夜の間断なく文武算筆の修業に勉励し、ますます大切に相勤め、内外の事まで底意なく用を達し、いよいよ懇意になったものの、最早言い出すべき時が至ったと、本国出立の節に国元の友達三人で契約した事を語ったところ、驚きかつ感動して家族同様に取り扱われるようになった。そして縁家にて禄高四百石の御旗本衆からひたすら懇望され、主家が仮の父となって養子に迎えられ、程なく家督相続し、予てからの赤心と力量をもって尽力したので、累進栄進して終には重き御役人となり、日々常盤橋の越前家御屋敷前を駕籠に乗り、先導の徒士や道具箱等の供立てにて登城されたという。これも前件と同時の話である。

After parting ways and walking about one chō (approximately 109 meters), one of the servants was called back, and he was granted all the clothing of the moment - the long and short swords, hakama, and all the ceremonial attire. His excellent character despite his young age was praised, and he was further employed as chief attendant. From then on, using his spare time from daily duties, he diligently studied literature, martial arts, arithmetic, and calligraphy without interruption through heat, cold, day, and night. He served ever more faithfully, accomplishing tasks both internal and external without any ulterior motives, becoming increasingly intimate with his master. However, feeling that the time had come to speak up, he told of the pact he had made with three friends from his home province when departing his homeland. His master was both surprised and moved, and began treating him like family. Through family connections, he was earnestly sought after by a hatamoto (direct retainer of the shogun) with a stipend of 400 koku of rice. His master became his adoptive father and took him as an adopted son. Before long, he inherited the family headship, and through his long-standing loyalty and ability, he devoted himself to service. He rose through the ranks and eventually became an important official, daily traveling in a palanquin past the Echizen family residence at Tokiwabashi, attending the castle with an entourage of foot soldiers, equipment bearers, and other attendants. This too is a story from the same period as the previous account.
