㫖這琉球國所與宴金仍着使臣收受欽遵在案今該  國王尚敬雖稱謹將宴金具本附陪臣等進呈懇乞 勅賜收受等語但海寶徐葆光等仰體 皇上特簡至意既未經收受應將該國王所請收受之  處母庸議九月初一日奉 㫖宴金仍着使臣照舊例收受   《割書:臣|》葆光按前明使臣却金不受始於陳侃世宗仍   命侃等收受嗣後例辭亦有准辭令貢使帶囘者 本朝康熙二年癸卯二十二年癸亥及今三役皆蒙 恩仍着收受所以奬厲使臣者至矣癸亥之役琉球國   王疏引張學禮伏還原職舊例爲汪楫林麟焻等   題請議敘優升是時海氛雖靖海禁猶嚴行役艱   險議敘爲宜今則昇平日久中外一家加以海靈   效順履險如夷區區往來臣子常分何勞可言虛   詞求敘實不敢踵爲故事也

現代語訳

勅旨「この琉球国の与える宴金は、やはり使臣に収受させよ」との欽遵が案にある。今、該国王尚敬は「謹んで宴金を具本に附し、陪臣等に進呈させ、懇ろに勅賜収受を乞う」等と称しているが、海寶・徐葆光等は皇上の特簡の至意を仰ぎ体して、未だ収受を経ていない。該国王の請う所の収受の処、議するに及ばず。九月初一日に勅旨を奉じ「宴金はやはり使臣をして旧例に照らして収受させよ」。 臣葆光按ずるに、前明の使臣が金を却けて受けざること、陳侃に始まる。世宗はなお侃等に収受を命じた。嗣後例辞するも、また辞を准して貢使に帯回させる者あり。本朝康熙二年癸卯、二十二年癸亥、及び今の三役、皆恩を蒙りてなお収受を着けらる。使臣を奬厲する所以の者、至れり。癸亥の役、琉球国王の疏は張学礼の伏還原職の旧例を引き、汪楫・林麟焻等の為に題請議敘優升す。是の時、海氛雖だ靖まるも海禁なお厳しく、行役艱険にして、議敘宜しきを為す。今則ち昇平日久しく、中外一家、加うるに海霊効順し、険を履むこと夷の如し。区区たる往来は臣子の常分、何の労か言うべけん。虚詞をもって敘を求むること、実に敢えて踵いで故事と為さざるなり。

英語訳

The imperial edict states "The banquet gold given by this Ryukyu kingdom shall still be accepted by the envoys," which was respectfully received and is on record. Now, although King Shō Kei of that kingdom states "I respectfully attach the banquet gold to this memorial through accompanying ministers for presentation, earnestly requesting imperial grant of acceptance" and so forth, Hai Bao and Xu Baoguang, reverently embodying His Majesty's profound intent in specially selecting them, have not yet accepted it. Regarding the king's request for acceptance, there is no need for deliberation. On the first day of the ninth month, the imperial edict was received: "The banquet gold shall still be accepted by the envoys according to old precedent." Minister Baoguang observes: The practice of former Ming envoys declining gold and not accepting it began with Chen Kan. Emperor Shizong still ordered Kan and others to accept it. Subsequently, though there were customary declinations, there were also cases where the declination was approved and tribute envoys were ordered to take it back. In our dynasty's three missions - Kangxi 2nd year (guimao), 22nd year (jihai), and the present one - all received imperial grace ordering acceptance. The means by which envoys are encouraged and rewarded is supreme. In the jihai mission, the Ryukyu king's memorial cited the old precedent of Zhang Xueli's restoration to original rank, petitioning for deliberation and promotion for Wang Ji, Lin Linzhuan and others. At that time, though maritime disturbances had been pacified, maritime prohibitions were still strict, the mission's journey was arduous and dangerous, so deliberation for promotion was appropriate. Now, however, peace has long prevailed, the realm within and without is one family, and moreover the sea spirits are compliant and obedient - traversing dangers is like walking on level ground. Such trivial comings and goings are the normal duty of ministers and subjects - what hardship is there to speak of? To seek promotion through empty words - I truly dare not follow this as precedent.
