身分の低い蝦夷の女性の中には、熊の子に乳を飲ませる者もいる。
鷲やシマフクロウの類を飼って、矢羽を取っている。
蝦夷の家は、皆一間造りである。掘立柱で、藤蔓の類を使って結び固めている。その国には鋸や斧の類がない。そのため、身分の高い家といっても皆この造りである。

Among the lower-class Ainu women, there are some who breastfeed bear cubs.
They raise eagles and Blakiston's fish owls to obtain feathers for arrows.
Ainu houses are all single-room constructions. They use buried posts and bind them firmly with vines such as wisteria. In their land, there are no saws or axes. Therefore, even houses of the upper class are all built in this manner.
