大納言殿は涙を流して、しばらく後、お返事もなさらず、やや時間が経ってからおっしゃったことには、「侍従を我が手にかけて失ったことをよくよく思えば、天魔が我が心に憑依してこのような振る舞いをしたのだと思われる。後悔が先に立たず、この上は姫君のことはどのようなことでも御身にお任せしよう。どのようにでもよくお計らいください」とおっしゃった。北の方もこのお返事をお聞きになって、お涙をとどめかねて帳の内へお入りになった。その後、乳母を呼んで、「大納言殿のお心も今は諦めがついた。姫君の
