北の御かたきこしめしやさしくもきこゆるもの
かなといとあはれにて
おもひいる山のおくなるいほりこそ

たき御ものかたりなとありて時うつれは又

現代語訳

北の御方がこれをお聞きになり、「優雅で心に響くものですね」ととても感動されて、
思い入る山の奥なる庵こそ
ついの住処の現れなりけれ
と詠んでおられる様子は、とても尊く拝見された。しばらく立ち入らせていただき、突然のことながら、さまざまなありがたいお話などがあって時が過ぎると、「また必ずお会いしましょう」と約束して、泣く泣くお別れになった。

The Kita no Kata, upon hearing this, said "How elegant and moving this sounds!" and was deeply touched, composing:
The hermitage deep in these contemplative mountains
Reveals itself as the ultimate dwelling place
Her manner of recitation appeared most sacred to behold. They were graciously allowed to enter for a while, and though it was an unexpected encounter, there were various precious conversations and stories shared. As time passed, they promised "We shall surely meet again" and tearfully parted ways.
