現代語訳
通人になるやいなや、また寒い師走、向島へ屋根船で出かける化け物のこと。それゆえ丑三つ頃より出かけたので、船宿では肝を潰し、「とても夜中、いくらでも船は出されません」というので、ようやく手の甲法（賄賂）をすって金十両にて屋根船を浮かべる。震えながらこのくしゃめの出るところが命だと喜んでいる。
それから中田屋でお頃合いというところなれど、世間は夜中、白川夜船。洗い鯉はさておき。

英語訳
As soon as they became sophisticated urbanites, and in the cold December, the monsters set out to Mukōjima by roofed boat. Since they departed around the Hour of the Ox (around 2-3 AM), the boatmen were startled, saying "We absolutely cannot put out boats at this hour of night, no matter how much you pay." Finally, by applying some palm-greasing (bribery) and paying ten gold ryō, they floated the roofed boat. Shivering, they rejoiced that this sneezing spot was their lifeline.
Then at Nakataya, it was about the right time, but the world was in the middle of the night, like "sleeping through everything" (Shirakawa yofune). Setting aside the washed carp.
