右席合に不拘名代差出筈尤未之番外以上御用番ゟ直切紙参候得は一旦御請いたし候上
直様仕掛手紙を以私儀此節不快或は痛等に而引込罷在出勤難仕候如何可仕候哉御差
図可被下旨相伺可申事左候得は親類名代可差出旨御差図申参候間親類可差出事
尤当人上下御用に候共名代は袴に而罷出候筈
但御番組に而右等之節は番頭ゟ御用番へ被相伺候上当人へ名代之儀可及差図事歟
一名代へ御用被仰付候節御礼廻勤等は其名代之者当日相勤ル事に候間追而当人致出勤候
とも最早御礼廻勤に不及筈

現代語訳
右の席合に関わらず名代を差し出すはず。もっとも未の番外以上で御用番から直接切紙が参った場合は、一旦御請けをした上で、直様仕掛手紙をもって「私儀この節不快或いは痛み等で引き込んでおり、出勤し難く候。いかが仕るべきか御指図を下されたい」旨を伺い申すべきこと。そうすれば親類名代を差し出すべき旨の御指図が申し参るので、親類を差し出すこと。
もっとも当人が上下の御用であっても、名代は袴で罷り出るはず。
但し御番組で右等の節は、番頭から御用番へ伺われた上で、当人へ名代の儀が指図に及ぶことか。
一、名代へ御用を仰せ付けられた節、御礼廻勤等はその名代の者が当日相勤めることなので、追って当人が出勤しても、最早御礼廻勤には及ばないはず。
一、文化九年申年、左の通り相極める。
一、御書院番組で諸願事或いは御咎等を仰せ付けられる節、御書院番頭両人共に故障がある節は、月番御用人へ仰せ渡されること。
一、御留守番組で右同断の節、御留守居両人共に故障がある場合は、月番大番頭へ仰せ渡されるはず。
但し先年御留守番組の内で御咎を仰せ付けられた節、筆頭周防長兵衛へ仰せ渡された例が一つあるため、なお又御目付へも穿鑿があった上で、以来前件の通り相極めたこと。
一、文化九年申年七月二十四日、蟹江太兵衛・川村栄三郎両人が御小姓を仰せ付けられた節、故障があり名代へ仰せ付けられたところ、差加がなかった。しかし以来左の通り御評議の上相極めた。
御小姓を仰せ付けられる節又は御小姓から転役を仰せ付けられる節、すべて御側役の差加りを仰せ付けられること。当人に故障があり名代へ仰せ付けられる節は、右の差加の有無が一定でなく、多くは差加がない方であったが、以来は名代であっても差加ありで仰せ付けられるよう相極めたこと。
一、文化十三年子年八月二十日、御附御小姓河崎三郎助が評定所で御咎を仰せ付けられた節、御側役が不快のため、名代として御用人月番へ御家老中が申し渡したこと。
一、文政十三年寅年六月三日、御先物頭石川平八の伺い遠慮中の屋敷替えを仰せ付けられた件、同節榊原助左衛門病死跡の屋敷替えを仰せ付けられた件等は、屋敷替えの部に出ている。
一、享保十七年子年九月二十九日、佐野又太郎御番組の武沢大七が御先武具奉行を仰せ付けられた節、大七が病気で罷り出でず、筆頭奈良左近右衛門へ申し渡し、その段を大七へ申し渡すべき旨を御家老中が申し渡した。
一、正徳二年辰年九月二十一日、今日稲葉多門が不快故、月番酒井典膳一人が出席につき、もっとも表向御用の節は月番の御目付一人がその席へ罷り出るけれども、御家老中一人で御用を取り扱う節は、町奉行・奉行・郡奉行等が御用に罷り出る節も、向後評定所では御目付一人ずつ出席するはずにつき、その段今日御目付へ典膳が申し聞かせた。今日も右の通り相勤めた。右の評定所へ御家老共一人出席の節の件は、当春各々申し談じ典膳が達御耳、右の通り相極めた。御用部留

Regardless of rank position, representatives should be presented. However, when those of mi-no-bangai rank and above receive a direct official note from the duty officer, they should first acknowledge receipt, then immediately send a formal letter stating: "I am currently indisposed or in pain and confined, making attendance difficult. Please provide guidance on how to proceed." Instructions will then be given to present a family representative, so a relative should be sent.
Even when the person concerned has formal court dress duties, the representative should attend in hakama.
However, for guard units in such situations, after the unit commander consults with the duty officer, instructions regarding representatives will be given to the person concerned.
1. When official duties are assigned to a representative, courtesy visits and duties are performed by that representative on the day, so even if the original person later attends to duties, courtesy visits are no longer necessary.
