一江戸詰并病気之者御用被申渡候儀子共親類等之内名代を呼出被申渡之

　一寛保二戌年九月五日土屋甚五左衛門／御用に而被為召候節病気に付為名代忰幸七罷出候事
　　留有之《割書：右昨晩甚五左衛門ゟ問合有之候付左膳方へ申達候上幸七差出候様申遣以後親御用有之節不快に候へは｜忰へ可申遣儀乍然御用之品により可申儀の由留有之》

一産穢忌中不快病等之者へ御用被仰付候事一通り御式目に有之候得共尚又左之通

　　右御用手紙参候以前に御用人ゟ忌穢御免之儀申参り其刻限相考御切紙参候事
　一御番組産穢忌中之節
　　右は御番頭へ突掛御用手紙参候と御番頭ゟ誰儀此節忌中或は産穢に罷在候如何可致哉
　　と御用番へ被相伺候得は親類名代可差出旨御差図有之候筈右に付御番組に而はたとひ御前御
　　用に而も忌穢御免と申事無之
　一惣而不快痛之節

現代語訳

御用の節の故障

一、江戸詰及び病気の者に御用を申し渡される件について、子供や親類等の内から名代を呼び出して申し渡すこと。
【屋敷添地を下される件についてである】

一、寛保二年戌年九月五日、土屋甚五左衛門が御用で召し出された節、病気のため名代として息子の幸七が出仕したこと。
記録がある《割書：右は昨晩甚五左衛門から問い合わせがあったため、左膳方へ申し達した上で幸七を差し出すよう申し遣わした。以後、親に御用がある節に不快（病気）であれば、息子へ申し遣わすべきことであるが、しかしながら御用の品によって申すべきことである旨の記録がある》

一、延宝元年丑年六月、御先物頭西尾十左衛門の名代白樫三郎兵衛、御留守物頭鈴木源兵衛の名代息子牛兵衛。右の役を免じられる時に煩っているため名代へ申し渡された。

一、寛延元年辰年三月二十一日、御目付冨田平蔵と厳田惣七の上屋敷御替えを下された節、平蔵が不快のため名代息子忠太夫へ御家老中が申し渡したこと。
同日　田辺平学と冨田平蔵の屋敷替えを下され、息子鉄五郎へ同様。

【御留守物頭、延享の記録ではこのように御留守物頭である】

一、延享三年寅年十一月朔日、原平左衛門に隠居を仰せ付けられ、息子半次郎へ家督を仰せ付けられた節、平左衛門が不快で半次郎が忌中のため、忌み免じを成されて出勤したこと《割書：延享元年子年十二月五日、御目付奈良権左衛門が江戸留守中、長谷川久之助の屋敷替えを下された節、息子藤治郎へ御家老中が申し渡したこと》

【延享の記録には半治郎ではなく平八とあり、また忌み免じの件も記録がない】

一、産穢・忌中・不快・病気等の者へ御用を仰せ付けられることは一通り御式目にあるが、なお又左の通り。

一、未の番外以上が産穢・忌中の節
右の御用手紙が参る以前に、御用人から忌穢御免の件を申し参り、その刻限を相考えて御切紙が参ること。

一、御番組が産穢・忌中の節
右は御番頭へ突然御用手紙が参ると、御番頭から「誰それがこの節忌中或いは産穢に罷在るがいかが致すべきか」と御用番へ伺われるので、親類名代を差し出すべき旨の御指図があるはず。右につき御番組においては、たとえ御前御用であっても忌穢御免ということはない。

1. Regarding the communication of official duties to those stationed in Edo and those who are ill: representatives are summoned from among their children, relatives, etc., and orders are communicated to them.

1. On the 5th day of the 9th month of Kanpō 2, year of the Dog, when Tsuchiya Jingorōzaemon was summoned for official duty, his son Kōshichi attended as his representative due to illness.
There is a record: "Since Jingorōzaemon made an inquiry last evening, after consulting with Sazen's office, we sent word that Kōshichi should be presented. Hereafter, when a parent has official duties and is unwell, the matter should be communicated to the son, however, this depends on the nature of the official duty."

1. In the 6th month of Enpō 1, year of the Ox, Shirakashi Saburōbei served as representative for saki-mono-gashira Nishio Jūzaemon, and Ushihei (son) served as representative for rusu-mono-gashira Suzuki Genbei. When these roles were relieved, the orders were communicated to the representatives due to illness.

1. On the 21st day of the 3rd month of Kan'en 1, year of the Dragon, when metsuke Tomita Heizō and Genda Sōshichi were granted an exchange of upper residences, since Heizō was unwell, the karō communicated this to his son and representative Chūdayū.
Same day: Tanabe Heigaku and Tomita Heizō were granted a residence exchange, communicated similarly to his son Tetsugorō.

1. On the 1st day of the 11th month of Enkyō 3, year of the Tiger, when Hara Heizaemon was ordered to retire and his son Hanjirō was appointed as heir, since Heizaemon was unwell and Hanjirō was in mourning, he was granted exemption from mourning restrictions and attended to duties. "On the 5th day of the 12th month of Enkyō 1, year of the Rat, when metsuke Nara Gonzaemon was on duty in Edo, regarding the residence exchange granted to Hasegawa Hisakunosuke, this was communicated by the karō to his son Tōjirō."

[In the Enkyō records it says Heihachi instead of Hanjirō, and there is no record of mourning exemption]

1. Regarding the assignment of official duties to those in childbirth pollution, mourning, indisposition, illness, etc., while this is generally covered in the regulations, the following applies:

1. When those of mi-no-bangai rank and above are in childbirth pollution or mourning:
Before the official duty letter arrives, the yōnin requests exemption from pollution/mourning restrictions, and after considering the timing, an official note is sent.

1. When guard unit members are in childbirth pollution or mourning:
When an official duty letter suddenly arrives for the unit commander, the commander inquires of the duty officer, "So-and-so is currently in mourning or childbirth pollution - what should be done?" Instructions should be given that relatives should present a representative. Regarding this, for guard units, even for direct service to the lord, there is no exemption from pollution/mourning restrictions.
