現代語訳

さて神輿入道は両国でのことをいろいろと思い続けていたが、日に日に見世物が繁盛し、夜が明けるまで化け物を訓練させるので、あまりに不憫に思い、入金子を出して猫又より我が子を買い戻した。そして段々と因果のものがたりをして、早くもそなたのことを、その身の発心のわけを言い聞かせた。

「そなたも人間に生まれし業を滅せんと髪を下ろさせよう。生まれつきの人間は悔やんでも変わらず、せめて破修懸けして、後の世には化け物にも生まれよ」

と教訓して、程近き山寺、道楽寺という人間の和尚を頼み、弟子となした。その身はまた諸国を巡らんと家を出でた。

「私のような因果なものはございません」

英語訳

Now, Mikoshi Nyudo kept thinking about various matters from Ryogoku, but as the freak show prospered day by day and the monsters were trained until dawn, he felt great pity and paid money to buy back his child from the cat-demon. He then gradually told stories of karma and cause-and-effect, explaining to the child the reason for spiritual awakening.

"You too should shave your head to extinguish the karma of being born human. What one is born as cannot be changed even with regret, so at least through religious practice, may you be reborn as a monster in the next life."

With this teaching, he entrusted the child to a human priest at a nearby mountain temple called Dorakuji, making him a disciple. The child then left home to wander through various provinces.

"There is no one with such terrible karma as myself."
