現代語訳

さて、化け物の親玉である御輿入道は先だって世を見限って諸国修行に出て以来、頭を押さえる化け物もなく、はなはだ化け物の風儀も悪くなった。化け物どもが寄り合って相談した。

中でも河奈良（妖怪の名か）が言うには、「御輿入道の落とし種があったが、母親はろくろ首で、確かによく人間を産んで、今は人間となって東洛（京都東部）の住持、密道（住持の名前）を［？］している。これを推し立てて御輿の家を相続し、寺に定めようという」

【海坊主の発言】
「なるほど、頭がなくても済まない。近年は化け物の習いとして人を脅して物取りをすることもあるそうだ」

Now, the head of all monsters, Mikoshi Nyudo, had previously given up on the world and departed on a pilgrimage through various provinces. Since then, there has been no monster to keep the others in line, and the conduct of monsters has become extremely poor. The monsters gathered together for a consultation.

Among them, Kawanara (possibly a monster's name) said: "There was offspring of Mikoshi Nyudo, whose mother was a rokurokubi (long-necked monster), and she indeed gave birth to a human child. Now he has become human and serves as the head priest Mitsudo in Toraku (eastern Kyoto). Let us elevate him to inherit Mikoshi's house and establish it as a temple."
