現代語訳
ここに池屋の九平という者がいた。様々と書き稼ぎをしていたが、商売と利口で、天の恵みにより総王（将軍）よりよき商人となり、家の豊かさに一子を設け、名を吉松と付けた。聡明で大人しく意志堅く、次男ができ、名を甚六と付けて、夫婦愛し合い限りなく喜ぶ。

Here lived a man named Kuhei of the Ikeya. He made a living through various writing work, but through business acumen and cleverness, by heaven's blessing he became a successful merchant favored by the shogun. With his family's prosperity, he had a son whom he named Yoshimatsu. The boy was intelligent, well-behaved, and strong-willed. When a second son was born, he named him Jinroku, and the couple loved each other and rejoiced without limit.
