Following our investigation of deaths and injuries caused by this earthquake and the subsequent fires, the figures are approximately as recorded above. Naturally, in areas such as Honjo and Fukagawa and many other districts, the situation regarding the injured has not yet been fully accounted for, and it is possible that the death toll will increase further. Furthermore, regarding the injured, some individuals have evacuated to the homes of relatives or people in nearby areas and are no longer present in their own districts, and there are also districts where the investigation has not yet been completed. Therefore, if a thorough investigation is conducted, we believe the numbers will likely increase considerably. Accordingly, we submit this report with the attached document.

【Attached note (Sagefuda)】
Regarding the 12 persons mentioned in the main text: they were caught beneath collapsed buildings along the main road of Asakusa Tamachi, and as fires subsequently broke out, the bodies were burned. Therefore, it has not been possible to determine the sex of many of the individuals, nor to assign them to specific districts.

**Account from the New Yoshiwara District**
831 people — registered deaths among courtesans (yūjo)
454 people — guests and other casual visitors (hiyakashi)
700 people — immediate deaths among teahouse men and women, kamuro (child attendants), young male attendants, and various other merchants
Item: A fire broke out from Kyōmachi; at the establishment of Okamoto-ya Chōbei, 70 people perished. The account is as follows: when the earthquake struck, the residents tried to flee, but as the main gate (Ōmon) was too far away, they rushed to the back exit and lowered the drawbridge (hane-bashi) intending to escape into the rice fields. All members of the household came out, whereupon two storehouses (dozō) collapsed, and all members of the household (were trapped beneath them...)
