それから各々の鴨が棒の端を咥える。
亀が持ち上げられると、人々は至る所で驚く
この様にして進んで行くのを見て
歩みの遅い動物とその家を、
ちょうど二羽の雛鳥の真ん中に。
奇跡だ！と人々は叫んだ。雲の中を
亀の女王が通って行くのを見に来い。
女王だって！本当にそうよ。私は確かに女王なのよ。
馬鹿にしないでちょうだい。亀は何も言わずに
そのまま通り過ぎていれば、もっと良かったのに。
なぜなら、歯を緩めて棒を離してしまったため、
亀は落ちて、見物人たちの足元で死んでしまった。
軽率な発言が亀の破滅の原因となったのだった。
軽率さ、おしゃべり、愚かな虚栄心、
そして虚しい好奇心、
これらは皆密接な血縁関係にある。
同じ血筋の子供たちなのだ。

When the turtle is lifted up, people everywhere are amazed
To see traveling in this manner
The slow animal and its house,
Right in the middle between the two goslings.
"A miracle!" they cried: "Come see in the clouds
The queen of turtles passing by!"
"The queen! Yes indeed: I am one in fact;
Don't mock me." She would have done much better
To continue on her way without saying anything;
For, releasing the stick by loosening her teeth,
She falls and dies at the feet of the onlookers.
Her indiscretion was the cause of her ruin.
Imprudence, chatter, and foolish vanity,
And vain curiosity,
Are all closely related:
They are children all of the same lineage.
