[冬牡丹（ふゆぼたん）]
花の色は紫があり、紅があり、薄咲きがあり、大白がある。花も葉も木も春牡丹より小さい。しかし早咲きは大きい。色は春咲く牡丹より美しい。紅色、紫ともに葉に赤い気配がある。茎や葉の筋もうす赤い。八月より葉も花も出て、十一月頃花が咲く。またつぼみが出ても花が開かないものもある。ただし全体的には春のものよりは小さい。

[元日草（がんじつそう）]
花は金色で、花びらが多く菊のようである。葉は人参に似ている。花は一重、八重があり、また深黄あるいは浅黄、また白もあるという。花は朝に開き、夕べに眠る。その花はまた翌朝開く。久しくある。高さは一寸から五寸、また春の末に至れば八、九寸ほど伸びる。茎を伸ばし枝を伸ばし葉を広げる。正月から二月まである。山原また谷底に生ずる。近江国北山より出される。一名福寿草、また漢名は報春草。中国にも立春より咲くとある。報春鳥（うぐいす）と同じなので報春草という。

[Winter Tree Peony (Fuyu-botan)]
The flower colors include purple, red, light-colored, and large white varieties. The flowers, leaves, and wood are all smaller than spring peonies. However, early-blooming ones are large. The colors are more beautiful than spring-blooming peonies. Both red and purple varieties have a reddish tinge in their leaves. The stems and leaf veins are also light red. From August, both leaves and flowers emerge, and flowers bloom around November. Some buds appear but do not open into flowers. However, overall they are smaller than spring varieties.

[New Year's Day Plant (Ganjitsu-sou)]
The flowers are golden in color with many petals like chrysanthemums. The leaves resemble carrots. Flowers come in single and double forms, and also in deep yellow or light yellow, and white is said to exist as well. The flowers open in the morning and close in the evening. The same flowers open again the next morning. This continues for a long time. The height ranges from one sun to five sun, and by late spring they grow to about eight or nine sun. They extend their stems, stretch their branches, and spread their leaves. They are present from January to February. They grow in mountain fields and valley bottoms. They are brought from Mount Kitayama in Omi Province. Also called Fukuju-so (Fortune and Longevity Plant), and the Chinese name is Hoshun-so (Spring-announcing Plant). In China too, it is said to bloom from the beginning of spring. Because it is the same as the spring-announcing bird (nightingale), it is called the spring-announcing plant.
