日愈
卯四拾歳
右長光寺日愈儀は越後国頸城郡
下町村出生ニ而九歳之砌出家いたし同宗
身延山久遠寺日楹弟子罷成候処
平日身持宜敷不如法等之儀無之
去ル酉年正月中前書長光寺え住職
仕候尤同寺儀は檀家受納向等も多分
ニは無之候得共本堂其外修復等
自分入用を以普請いたし法類檀中一同
至而気請宜敷ものニ御座候殊ニ去ル
二日夜地震ニ付檀家窮民之内押潰
候上類焼并即死仕候ものえ為手当
金五拾疋ツヽ差遣其上回向料等請

The above-mentioned Nichiyū of Chōkō-ji Temple was born in Shimomachi Village, Kubiki District, Echigo Province, and became a monk at the age of nine in the same sect, becoming a disciple of Nichiei of Kuon-ji Temple on Mount Minobu. His daily conduct has been proper with no improper behavior. In the first month of the previous year of the Rooster, he took up residence as the head priest of the aforementioned Chōkō-ji Temple. Although this temple does not have many parishioners or much income from donations, he has carried out repairs to the main hall and other buildings at his own expense, and is well-regarded by his fellow priests and all parishioners. Particularly, regarding the earthquake on the night of the 2nd, to those among his impoverished parishioners who were crushed, suffered fire damage, or died instantly, he provided 50 mon of gold each as assistance, and furthermore did not charge funeral fees.
