夫心虚にして邪病｜瘳（いゑ）ざるもの
ありや境霊にして湯泉｜験（しる）しなき
ものありや唐はしらず爰に
日光山中禅寺の温泉は其病に
応じて奇効（きかう）のあること枚挙（まいきよ）す
べからずされど高山の臍（さい）下に居（こ）す
れば危巌（きかん）面を冒（をか）し磊（らい）石足を悩（なや）
ますのみならず冬春は積雪比｜屋（おく）
を埋（うづ）み殺気（さつき）幽谷を鳴して飛｜禽（きん）
走（さう）獣といへども克（よく）栖（すむ）ことあたはず唯
夏秋の間のみ病-夫市をなせり若
一たび足を投（たう）するものは涼風｜煩熱（はんねつ）
を射（ゐ）て昼（ひる）客塵の沙（いさご）をくだき霊泉
沈疴（ちんあ）に濯（すゝい）て夜（よる）団月の霧をはらふ

そもそも心が虚弱で邪気による病気が治らない者があろうか。霊験あらたかな土地にあって、温泉に効験がないものがあろうか。中国のことは知らないが、ここ日光山中禅寺の温泉は、その病気に応じて奇跡的な効果があることは数え切れないほどである。
しかしながら、高山の奥深くに位置するため、険しい岩壁が顔面を脅かし、ごろごろした石が足を悩ませるだけでなく、冬から春にかけては積雪が家屋を埋め、殺伐とした気配が幽谷に響いて、飛ぶ鳥や走る獣でさえもよく棲むことができない。ただ夏秋の間のみ病人が市をなすように集まる。
ひとたび足を向ける者は、涼しい風が煩熱を払って昼間は俗世の塵を砕き、霊泉が慢性の病を洗い清めて夜には満月の霧を晴らす。

Is there anyone whose heart is weak and whose illness caused by evil spirits cannot be cured? Is there any sacred place where hot springs show no efficacy? I do not know about China, but here at the hot springs of Chūzenji on Mount Nikkō, the miraculous effects corresponding to various ailments are countless.
However, since it is located deep in the high mountains, dangerous rock faces threaten one's countenance, and rough stones torment one's feet. Moreover, from winter to spring, accumulated snow buries the houses, and a deadly atmosphere echoes through the secluded valleys, so that even flying birds and running beasts cannot dwell there well. Only during summer and autumn do the sick gather like a marketplace.
Once someone sets foot there, cool breezes dispel feverish heat, crushing worldly dust during the day, while the sacred springs cleanse chronic ailments, clearing away the moon's mist at night.
