狗脊《割書：ぜん｜まい｜》 強膂 扶筯
《割書：いぬわらび｜》 百枝 狗青
本綱に説狗脊和漢事耳不らす然のみ大和本草には
狗脊別物なる事説ける可考矣微に迷蕨の名雖も有と是は別物
也微は野豌豆の總名を云紫萁有り青出赤出の二種
赤莖の者乾而爲菜最薄（やヽうす）し青莖の者味苦
是を云鬼狗紫萁と葉予考狗脊に和漢の二種あり山
原に自然生の者和産にめ莖葉至て硬（こわ）し食ふに
堪へす漢種は莖葉軟（やはらか）にめ味苦からす土民日用の
飣とす紫蕨は越後國を名産とす四方に送る漢
種今は所々種殖（うへふや）し山に生す状和漢異なる事なし

狗脊（ぜんまい） 強膂 扶筯

『本綱』には狗脊について和漢の区別を説明していないが、『大和本草』には
狗脊は別物であると説明している。考察すべきである。わずかに迷蕨の名前もあるが、これは別物
である。「微」は野豌豆の総名を言う。紫萁には青茎と赤茎の二種がある。
赤い茎のものは乾燥させて野菜にするが最も薄い。青い茎のものは味が苦く、
これを鬼狗紫萁と言う。私が考えるに、狗脊には和漢の二種がある。山
原に自然に生えるものは和産で、茎葉が非常に硬く、食べるに
堪えない。漢種は茎葉が柔らかで、味も苦くない。土地の民の日用の
食べ物とする。紫蕨は越後国を名産地とし、四方に送る。漢
種は今では各地で栽培され、山に生える。その様子は和漢で異なることはない。

The "Ben Gang" (Compendium) does not distinguish between Japanese and Chinese varieties of dog's spine, but the "Yamato Honzō" explains that
dog's spine is a separate plant. This should be investigated. There is also the name maze-warabi (confused fern), but this is a different plant.
"Wei" refers to the general name for wild peas. Purple osmunda has two varieties: blue-stemmed and red-stemmed.
The red-stemmed ones are dried to make vegetables but are very thin. The blue-stemmed ones taste bitter,
and these are called demon dog purple osmunda. In my consideration, dog's spine has two types, Japanese and Chinese. Those that grow
naturally in mountain plains are Japanese varieties, with very hard stems and leaves, not
suitable for eating. The Chinese variety has soft stems and leaves and is not bitter in taste. Local people use it as
daily food. Purple fern has Echigo Province as its famous production area, and it is sent in all directions. The Chinese
variety is now cultivated in various places and grows in mountains. Its appearance is no different between Japanese and Chinese varieties.
