乍恐向上書を以奉願候御事
拙者儀御地頭様御分御村方小触先年ゟ被仰付相勤
罷在候趣に当番申上候通り拙者儀も内々至而困窮仕
候に付何様にも相続可仕様無御座候間御町小触相勤罷在候
趣に当御用壱人者に而只今迄漸々相勤罷在候趣に
当秋に罷成御地頭様に而御在所被遊候に付御
用多に罷成何様にも両小触相勤兼無拠仕合に
奉存候間当番申上候通り来番御町小触相除
申迄御村方小触役役立被下候而来春迄御
免被成下候様奉願候品々は当十七願申上候

恐れながら口上書をもって願い奉り候御事
私儀、御地頭様の御分（支配）の御村方小触を先年より仰せ付けられ、相勤めまかり在り候ところ、当番より申し上げ候通り、私儀も内々至って困窮仕り候につき、いかようにも相続仕る様御座無く候間、御町小触を相勤めまかり在り候ところ、当御用一人にて只今まで漸々相勤めまかり在り候ところ、当秋になり、御地頭様にて御在所に遊ばされ候につき、御用多くなり、いかようにも両小触相勤め兼ね、よんどころない仕合いに存じ奉り候間、当番より申し上げ候通り、来番御町小触を除かれ申すまで、御村方小触役の役を立てていただき候て、来春まで御免成し下され候様に願い奉り候。品々は当十七日に願い申し上げ候通りに御座候間、何卒願いの通り仰せ付け下し置かれたく存じ奉り候。以上。

With great deference, I humbly submit this written petition:
Regarding myself: I have been ordered since previous years to serve as the village messenger/notice distributor (murakobure) under the jurisdiction of the honorable landlord (ojitō-sama), as I have reported in my current duty. As I have stated, I have been privately suffering from extreme poverty and have had no means to sustain myself. In this situation, I have been barely managing, up until now, to serve alone in both capacities — as town messenger/notice distributor (machikobure) and as a single official servant. Now that autumn has arrived and the honorable landlord has returned to his home domain, official duties have increased greatly, and I find myself in an unavoidable and helpless situation, unable to manage both messenger duties simultaneously. Therefore, as I have reported during my current duty period, I humbly petition that I be relieved of the village messenger duty until I am removed from the town messenger duty in the next rotation, and that I be granted exemption from it until next spring. The details are as I petitioned on the 17th of this month, and I earnestly request that my petition be granted as stated. Respectfully submitted.
