丈許揚りて其まゝ落されたりと覚へしか直に
家居傾へたり故に人々戸を出る間なし偶々辛
ふして戸を出たるもの却て屋瓦の為に打たれ
て創蒙りし多し且戸を出る頃は大方地震は止
みたりとそ其迅速想ふへし去年駿州にて地震
に逢へしものゝ話に地震の来るは海中にて大
濤の来るを見るか如しと云へしとそ
一地震あるや否井水皆増りて柄杓にて酌むへ
現代語訳
一、地震が来る、その最初は非常に速く、震動は全くなし。ただ一丈ほど持ち上げられて、そのまま落とされたと感じた。すぐに家屋が傾いた。そのため人々は戸口から出る暇がない。たまたま苦労して戸口から出た者も、かえって屋根瓦のために打たれて怪我を負った者が多い。また戸口を出る頃には、大方地震は止んでいたという。その迅速さは想像できるであろう。去年駿河国で地震に遭った者の話では、地震が来るのは海中で大波が来るのを見るようだと言ったということである。
一、地震があるやいなや、井戸の水がみな増えて、柄杓で汲むべき

Item: When an earthquake comes, its initial speed is extremely fast, with no trembling motion at all. It felt as though one was lifted up about one jō (approximately 3 meters) and then dropped. Immediately, houses tilted. Therefore, people had no time to exit through doorways. Those who occasionally managed to struggle out through doorways were instead struck by roof tiles and many suffered injuries. Moreover, by the time they exited through doorways, the earthquake had mostly stopped. One can imagine its swiftness. According to the account of someone who experienced an earthquake in Suruga Province last year, the coming of an earthquake is like seeing great waves approaching in the ocean.
