無尽意若有人受持六十二億恒河沙菩薩
名字復尽形供養飲食衣服臥具医薬於汝
意云何是善男子善女人功徳多不無尽意
言甚多世尊仏言若復有人受持観世音菩
薩名号乃至一時礼拝供養是二人福正等
無異於百千万億刧不可窮尽無尽意受持
観世音菩薩名号得如是無量無辺福徳之
利無尽意菩薩白仏言世尊観世音菩薩云
何遊此娑婆世界云何而為衆生説法方便
之力其事云何仏告無尽意菩薩善男子若
有国土衆生応以仏身得度者観世音菩薩
即現仏【𠏹。亻偏に覀+国】身而為説法【灋】応以辟支仏身得度者
即現辟支仏身而為説法応以声聞身得度
者即現声聞身而為説法【㳒】応以梵王身得度
者即現梵王身而為説法応以帝釈身得度
者即現帝釈身而為説法応以自在天身得
度者即現自在天身而為説法応以大自在
天身得度者即現大自在天身而為説法応
以天大将軍身得度者即現天大将軍身而
為説法応以毘沙門身得度者即現毘沙門
身而為説法応以小王身得度者即現小王
身而為説法応以長者身得度者即現長者
身而為説法応以居士身得度者即現居士
身而為説法応以宰官身得度者即現宰官
身而為説法応以婆羅門身得度者即現婆
羅門身而為説法【㳒】応以比丘比丘尼優婆塞
優婆夷身得度者即現比丘比丘尼優婆塞
優婆夷身而為説法応以長者居士宰官婆
羅門婦女身得度者即現婦女身而為説法
応以童男童女身得度者即現童男童女身
而為説法応以天龍夜叉乾闥婆阿修羅迦
楼羅緊那羅摩睺羅伽人非人等身得度者
即皆現之而為説法応以執金剛神得度者即
現執金剛神而為説法無尽意是観世音菩
薩成就如是功徳以種種形遊諸国土度脱
衆生是故汝等応当一心供養観世音菩薩
是観世音菩薩摩訶薩於怖畏急難之中能
施無畏是故此娑婆世界皆号之為施無畏

現代語訳
無尽意よ、もし人が六十二億恒河沙の菩薩の名字を受持し、また生涯にわたって飲食・衣服・臥具・医薬を供養したとすれば、汝の意においてはどうであろうか。この善男子・善女人の功徳は多いであろうか、そうでないであろうか。」無尽意は言った。「甚だ多うございます、世尊よ。」仏は言われた。「もしまた人が観世音菩薩の名号を受持し、一時でも礼拝供養すれば、この二人の福は全く等しく異なることがない。百千万億劫の間、尽きることがない。無尽意よ、観世音菩薩の名号を受持すれば、このような無量無辺の福徳の利益を得るのである。」
無尽意菩薩は仏に申し上げた。「世尊よ、観世音菩薩はどのようにしてこの娑婆世界を遊行されるのでしょうか。どのようにして衆生のために説法されるのでしょうか。方便の力はどのようなものでしょうか。」
仏は無尽意菩薩に告げられた。「善男子よ、もし国土の衆生で仏身によって度されるべき者があれば、観世音菩薩はすなわち仏身を現して説法される。辟支仏身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち辟支仏身を現して説法される。声聞身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち声聞身を現して説法される。梵王身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち梵王身を現して説法される。帝釈身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち帝釈身を現して説法される。自在天身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち自在天身を現して説法される。大自在天身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち大自在天身を現して説法される。天大将軍身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち天大将軍身を現して説法される。毘沙門身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち毘沙門身を現して説法される。小王身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち小王身を現して説法される。長者身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち長者身を現して説法される。居士身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち居士身を現して説法される。宰官身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち宰官身を現して説法される。婆羅門身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち婆羅門身を現して説法される。比丘・比丘尼・優婆塞・優婆夷身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち比丘・比丘尼・優婆塞・優婆夷身を現して説法される。長者・居士・宰官・婆羅門の婦女身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち婦女身を現して説法される。童男・童女身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち童男・童女身を現して説法される。天・龍・夜叉・乾闥婆・阿修羅・迦楼羅・緊那羅・摩睺羅伽・人・非人等の身によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち皆これを現して説法される。執金剛神によって度されるべき者があれば、すなわち執金剛神を現して説法される。
無尽意よ、この観世音菩薩はこのような功徳を成就し、種々の形をもって諸国土を遊行し、衆生を度脱するのである。それゆえ汝等は当に一心に観世音菩薩を供養すべきである。この観世音菩薩摩訶薩は、恐怖や急難の中にあって無畏を施すことができる。それゆえこの娑婆世界では皆、これを施無畏者と号するのである。」

英語訳
"Inexhaustible Intent, if someone were to uphold the names of sixty-two billion Ganges sand bodhisattvas and moreover make offerings of food, clothing, bedding, and medicine throughout their entire life, what do you think? Would the merit of such good men and good women be great or not?" Inexhaustible Intent replied: "It would be very great, World-Honored One." The Buddha said: "If someone else were to uphold the name of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva and worship and make offerings even for just one moment, the merit of these two people would be exactly equal, with no difference. It would be inexhaustible for hundreds of thousands of millions of billions of kalpas. Inexhaustible Intent, by upholding the name of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, one obtains such immeasurable and boundless benefits of merit and virtue."
Inexhaustible Intent Bodhisattva addressed the Buddha: "World-Honored One, how does Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva travel through this saha world? How does he teach the Dharma for sentient beings? What are his skillful means and powers?"
The Buddha told Inexhaustible Intent Bodhisattva: "Good son, if there are sentient beings in any land who should be saved by a Buddha-body, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva immediately manifests a Buddha-body and teaches the Dharma for them. For those who should be saved by a pratyekabuddha-body, he immediately manifests a pratyekabuddha-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by a śrāvaka-body, he immediately manifests a śrāvaka-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by a Brahmā-king-body, he immediately manifests a Brahmā-king-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by an Indra-body, he immediately manifests an Indra-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by an Īśvara-deva-body, he immediately manifests an Īśvara-deva-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by a Maheśvara-deva-body, he immediately manifests a Maheśvara-deva-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by a heavenly general-body, he immediately manifests a heavenly general-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by a Vaiśravaṇa-body, he immediately manifests a Vaiśravaṇa-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by a minor king-body, he immediately manifests a minor king-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by an elder-body, he immediately manifests an elder-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by a householder-body, he immediately manifests a householder-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by a minister-body, he immediately manifests a minister-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by a brahman-body, he immediately manifests a brahman-body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by bhikṣu, bhikṣuṇī, upāsaka, or upāsikā bodies, he immediately manifests bhikṣu, bhikṣuṇī, upāsaka, or upāsikā bodies and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by the bodies of women of elders, householders, ministers, or brahmans, he immediately manifests a woman's body and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by boy or girl bodies, he immediately manifests boy or girl bodies and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by the bodies of devas, nāgas, yakṣas, gandharvas, asuras, garuḍas, kiṃnaras, mahoragas, humans, non-humans, etc., he manifests all of these and teaches the Dharma. For those who should be saved by a vajra-bearing spirit, he immediately manifests a vajra-bearing spirit and teaches the Dharma.
Inexhaustible Intent, this Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva accomplishes such merit and virtue, traveling through all lands in various forms to save and liberate sentient beings. Therefore, you should all wholeheartedly make offerings to Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva. This Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva-mahāsattva can bestow fearlessness in the midst of fear and urgent difficulties. Therefore, in this saha world, all call him the Bestower of Fearlessness."
