吾山は霊験すくれて炳尊けれは
貴賤渇仰の首を傾け遠近信
心の歩を運ひ今は世にかくれなき
讃仏場となりぬれといまた其故
よし開基の上人の御伝なとは記
せる書もあらさりけるを故人中路
定俊かあらかしめおもひ立ありし

序
わが山（成田山）は霊験あらたかで尊いので、身分の高い人も低い人も皆あこがれて頭を下げ、遠くからも近くからも信心深い人々が足を運び、今では世に知れ渡った念仏の聖地となった。しかしながら、まだその由来や開基の上人の御伝記などを記した書物もなかったところ、故人である中路定俊がかねてから思い立っていたことがあった。

Preface
Our mountain (Mount Narita) possesses such remarkable spiritual efficacy and is so venerable that people of high and low station alike bow their heads in reverence, and believers from far and near make the journey here. It has now become a widely known Buddhist sanctuary. However, there were still no written records of its origins or biographies of the founding monks. The late Nakamichi Sadatoshi had long been contemplating this matter.
