The Daikan (deputy officials), Tsunetoki, Onken, Ujito, and Kanken (acting as Suemasa, each wearing ōkatabira [a type of jōe, white purification robe]), with one of the Daikan going to the residence of the Shoshi-dayū to collect the key to the Chōya (administrative hall) and open the shitomi (latticed shutters). Thereafter, long chests (nagamochi, five in total) were brought out from the Takakura storehouse — including those containing items for the chief priest's upper and lower ranks, sword boxes, musicians' costume boxes, and yin-yang master (onmyō) costume boxes — and were spread open in the Chōya for inspection.
Once the work was completed, the items were repacked into their boxes as before, and one Shōzoku-bugyō (costume magistrate) and one Daikan together applied their seals. The boxes were then returned to the Takakura storehouse, and everyone withdrew. In connection with this event, the items brought by the Daikan group were as follows:
(This year, due to a suspension [of the customary provisions], there were no formal side dishes; instead, saba-no-nuta [mackerel dressed with miso and vinegar] was served.)
One entry: Sake, a three-shō barrel (this year, two shō); three kinds of side dishes — octopus dressed in sauce (tako-shitashi), simmered dishes (nishime: skewered shellfish, small taro, grilled tofu)
The items sent via day laborers (ninpu) to the Hyōgijo (deliberation hall), as noted in a written memorandum, were as follows:
One entry: Camphor (20 ryō), hanshi paper (one ori/fold), tea (with bag), firewood (kindling), tea kettle (chagama), iron trivet (tetsuri), hand bucket with ladle
One entry: Taking advantage of today's gathering, two persons were to be appointed to oversee the transfer of equipment (dōgu-watashi) on the first day of the tenth month. It was accordingly decided that Ujito and Kanken would take on this role.
The First Day of the Tenth Month
One entry: Today, the transfer of boxes (hako-watashi) to the current Daikan was carried out. Ujito and Kanken (wearing formal kamishimo attire) went to the Funkyō-tei (residence of Funkyō) around noon (the Hour of the Horse), conducted a thorough item-by-item inspection and transfer, and upon completion, a celebratory drink was offered, as in the previous year.
