【嶋多事（しまのたこと）】

母君様のご誕生前よりお仕え申し上げており、当年まで三十六年間、滞りなく勤めてまいりました。老女（ろうじょ）の役職としては不十分な点もございますが、ご誕生以来お仕えしている者はあの一人のみでございます。とりわけ、先年来、老女たちはお手元金の取り扱いをせず、お礼金もかなり不足するようになりましたが、現在お取りまとめが成り立っておりますのは、あの者の功績によるところが大きいものであります。

ご誕生以来引き続き、並々ならぬ骨折り（苦労・尽力）を重ねてまいりました。格別のご配慮をもって、来る正月十一日より、わずかながらでも扶持（ふち）の加増を賜りますれば、なお一層精励いたし、備金（そなえきん）の準備も致す所存でございます。もっとも、近年は奥向きの者も代替わりし、別段の骨折りも様々と難しくなってまいりました。なお詳しく吟味の上、申し聞かせるべき事柄でございます。

【Shima no Takoto (Affairs of Shima)】

She has been in service since before the birth of the Lady Mother, and has served diligently for thirty-six years up to the present. While she may fall short in some respects as a senior female attendant (rōjo), she is the only person who has continuously served since the time of the birth. In particular, in recent years, the senior female attendants have not handled the personal funds (o-temoto-kin), and the gift monies (o-rekin) have become considerably insufficient; however, it is largely through her efforts and merits that the current financial management has been maintained.

She has continued her extraordinary dedication and hard work without interruption since the birth of the Lady. In recognition of her exceptional service, it is hoped that, from the eleventh day of the coming New Year's month, even a modest increase in stipend (fuchi) be granted to her, so that she may devote herself with even greater diligence and attend to the reserve funds. That said, in recent years, the staff of the inner chambers has also changed, and various additional burdens have made things increasingly difficult. This matter should be further examined and communicated accordingly.
