大地震に付大阪市中殊の外破損有之候所
同五日同様度々震ふ事甚し同日夕方より
俄に津波にて安治川口木津川口ゟ大船
数艘一時に川中へ入込橋々悉く突落し
木津川口は大黒橋迄北は安治川橋迄入込候船々
数しれず怪我人死人夥敷目も当られぬ哀
　　なる事也其上勘介嶋死人数知れず其外

現代語訳

嘉永七年寅年十一月四日午前十時頃から大地震が起こり、大阪市中は特にひどく破損した。同じく五日にも同様に度々地震が起こり、その揺れは甚だしかった。同日夕方から突然津波が発生し、安治川口と木津川口から大型船数隻が一度に川中へ押し入り、橋々をことごとく突き落とした。

木津川口では大黒橋まで、北は安治川橋まで流れ込んだ船の数は数え切れず、怪我人と死人が非常に多く、目も当てられない悲惨な状況となった。その上、勘助島では死者数が分からないほど多く、その他寺島、今木新田、月正島、木津、難波など、どこも水が流れ込み白い海のようになってしまった。まことに前代未聞の騒動で、並大抵のことではない。その概要を記すものである。

On the 4th day of the 11th month of Kaei 7, year of the Tiger, around 10 AM, a great earthquake occurred, causing particularly severe damage throughout Osaka city. On the 5th day as well, similar frequent earthquakes occurred with tremendous shaking. From the evening of that same day, a sudden tsunami struck, with several large ships rushing into the river all at once from the mouths of the Aji River and Kizu River, completely destroying all the bridges.

At the Kizu River mouth, ships flowed in as far as Daikoku Bridge, and to the north, up to Aji River Bridge - the number of ships was countless. There were enormous numbers of injured and dead, creating a pitiful scene too terrible to witness. Moreover, on Kansuke Island, the number of dead was beyond counting, and other areas including Terashima, Imaki Shinden, Gessho Island, Kizu, and Namba were all flooded, becoming like a white sea. This was truly an unprecedented disaster of extraordinary magnitude. This records an overview of these events.
