大 地（ち）震にて始￣メ ドロ〳〵とゆり出し其後ひき
続（つゝい）て大地震となりゆくしばらく家居（いい）【いへい？】倒（たを）
るゝ計りにて只思ひがけなく皆地に伏（ふ）し
畳に伏し柱（はしら）をいだき垣（かき）を杖（つへ）にするも皆
其身の全（まつた）き事のみ祈（いの）る中に老（らう）人の出て
大道へ出よとのゝしるを聞伝へ銘〻板を並べ

これは文政十三年（庚寅）の年、七月二日昼の七ツ時（午後二時頃）、京都において大地震があり、はじめはドロドロとゆっくり揺れ始め、その後続けて大地震となっていった。しばらくの間、家屋が倒れんばかりに揺れ、ただ思いがけなく皆が地に伏し、畳に伏し、柱にしがみつき、垣根を杖代わりにする者も皆、自分の身が無事であることだけを祈る中、老人が出てきて「大通りへ出よ」と叫ぶのを聞き伝え、各々が板を並べて（続く）

## Record of the Great Earthquake
This occurred in the year Bunsei 13 (the year of Kanoe-Tora, 1830), on the 2nd day of the 7th month, at the hour of Nanatsu in the afternoon (around 2 PM). In Kyoto, a great earthquake struck, beginning with a low rumbling tremor, then continuing into a full-scale major earthquake. For a time, it seemed as though every house would collapse; people unexpectedly threw themselves to the ground, prostrated themselves on tatami mats, clung to pillars, and used garden fences as walking sticks — all praying only for their own safety. In the midst of this, an elderly person came out and was heard shouting, "Get out onto the main street!" This cry was passed from person to person, and each household began laying out boards...
