比は文政十三《割書：庚｜寅》のとし七月二日昼七ツ時 京都
大 地（ち）震にて始メドロ〳〵とゆり出し其後ひき
続（つゝい）て大地震となりゆくしばらく家居（いい）【いへい？】倒（たを）
るゝ計りにて只思ひがけなく皆地に伏（ふ）し
畳に伏し柱（はしら）をいだき垣（かき）を杖（つへ）にするも皆
其身の全（まつた）き事のみ祈（いの）る中ニ老（らう）人の出て
大道へ出よとのゝしるを聞伝へ銘〻板を並べ

これは文政十三年（庚寅の年）七月二日、昼の七つ時のことである。京都で大地震が起こり、初めはどろどろと揺れ始め、その後引き続いて大地震となった。しばらくの間、家屋が倒れるほどで、ただ思いがけないことに皆が地に伏し、畳に伏し、柱を抱き、垣根を杖にするも、皆その身の無事であることのみを祈っていた。その中に老人が出てきて「大道へ出よ」と大声で叫ぶのを聞き伝え、めいめい板を並べ

This occurred on the second day of the seventh month of Bunsei 13 (the year of the Metal Tiger), at the seventh hour of the day. A great earthquake struck Kyoto, beginning with a rumbling motion, then continuing as a major earthquake. For a while, houses were on the verge of collapse, and unexpectedly everyone prostrated themselves on the ground, lay flat on tatami mats, embraced pillars, and used fences as walking sticks, all praying only for their own safety.
